I'm looking at a home on Camero avenue, near Hillhurst & Prospect. Zip code is 90027... is that a safe, higher end neighborhood?

thanks!

Yes. That's in Los Feliz. It's a great location - a location that people would be willing to pimp their mom to be able to live in. (90027 is Los Feliz and part of Silver Lake - Silver Lake also spills into 90039).

Everywhere in L.A. has property crime issues especially relating to car break ins, but violent crime over there is low and that's a VERY walkable area. You'll be right by the Vista and the strip of stores along Vermont between Prospect and Franklin.

I really don't think there's a better place to be in all of L.A.

I agree. GREAT location. You'll be able to walk everywhere, and have tons of excellent restaurants 9and other businesses) within very close distance. I don't know that specific block, but yes, Los Feliz is considered safe and high end. Use common sense, of course, since you are in the city, but safety concerns shouldn't be much of an issue there. Los Feliz is considered a very desirable neighborhood.

FYI, the block where The Vista is located was hit by a series of break-ins around March/April. I know someone who lives in the area and got robbed. They smashed in an upstairs window and got in. Took his tv equip. and (I think) guitars as well. Good thing he was at work at the time. They think it happened around 8 or 9 p.m.

Very little violent crime, but a great deal of car break ins.

Auto break-ins are an issue in every neighborhood within Los Angeles city limits. The crime statistics for Brentwood, for example, which certain people here really love, are very similar to those for Los Feliz, Atwater Village, and the parts of Silver Lake in 90027 and 90039. Low violent crime, high auto breakins.
