Money is just an excuse. I don't know how you can compare "irresponsible sexual escapades" to what women do in porn nowadays. Exactly what is your definition of irresponsible sexual escapades? A one night stand? Most of the more liberal women I've known might be a little more promiscuous than they should be...........but it's not like normal women are snorting coke off dick and having orgies every night of the week. Maybe the women you know but I tend not to associate with that crowd.
Because it is easy. They probably have tones of woman trying to get these jobs and they are probably just as good looking. This type of thing draws all the pretty girls because they know it's easy money and have a sense that they are beautiful. All of a sudden, they are just beautiful girl 987 out of a pack of a couple thousand or so.

If anyone thinks that the pornography industry is disgusting they should look into the businesses biased in the USA that sell puppy and kitten meat on the internet, that is disgusting.
And one thing I would use my legally owned M60 to happily wipe out!!

Let's discuss Los Angeles's last great industry. Is it still great and thriving, or did it fall with the rest of it?

Does anybody know about any LA porn forums open for discussion or useful links?

This is my only reason for coming to Los Angeles, a place where so much is failing right now. Is the business still alive, especially in the SF Valley like everyone says it is? Can you still find a job as a simple walk-in if you have the credentials?
The porn industry is no longer what it used to be. Back then porn stars made a lot of money etc. Now you are having porn stars (male and female) make a fraction of what they used to make (some are now making 20% of their former salaries) before the internet killed the porn industry. Websites like youporn and pornhub have killed the industry, as these sites show porn for free. The days of having someone fork over their cc number to access porn online are over. This is reflected in porn stars salaries as well. There just isn't as much money in the porn biz as there used to be. If you are female and drop dead gorgeous you have a better chance at making it but if you are just another dude, all I have to say is good luck.

most of the girls in the **** biz came to LA from somewhere else with dreams of Hollywood stardom in their eyes, when that doesn't pan out they wither go back home or turn to porn, it's just how it is in LA

This includes men, of course, too, who actually make considerably more money than women (gay porn, that is, not the straight m/f)

It's amazing what young guys and girls will do for a few hundred bucks to have their faces and bodies immortalized in video.

Yeah, and how about wildly alternative stuff out there like gay MtF trans porn, compared to the normal straight male and female porn? Idk how white skin compares to what they have out in Bangkok; I'm assuming worth more than Asian even tho Asian seems to be in demand here in the states....either way right now Asia is chalk full of wildly alternative porn of this nature and it's a very real industry out there.

So my question stands. Does the industry still exist there....or are you better off staying on the internet and not going to Los Angeles at all? The benefit of living in Los Angeles for this purpose would be making money much easier and more direct such as walking into a studio and applying for a job as opposed to online self marketing and cutting deals with websites.....not to mention if Los Angeles is the "center of pornography in America", then I'm sure there is an abundant number of strip clubs and the like to apply for jobs at.

Here's an interesting statement about AVN Magazine from Wikipedia...

It's a pie chart." When asked to separate the figures for sales versus rentals, a standard practice among those who cover the video industry, the editor did not think those figures were available. Adams Media Research noted that no one tracked the adult video business with rigor or precision and that the most generous estimate of sales and rentals combined was $1.8 billion. AVN estimated that adult industry revenue in 2005 was $12.6 billion with $2.5 billion of that coming from the Internet. However, ABC News reported that this figure could not be independently verified.

I wonder who makes more, women in porn or prostitutes? I would think some prostitutes make more or maybe there is some crossover between the two professions, ie porn starts that also work as prostitutes.

Original poster: you're trying to get into porn?

If so, it depends, are you male or female, open to straight or bi or gay porn regardless of orientation, and your age.

But even if one were to focus on Internet porn many major studios are located and recruiting in LA or So Cal in general.

Male, open to any kind of porn, 20 yrs old. My issue is of course I'm looking at it as a business venture, but I don't want to move to Los Angeles, a city with out of control rents, unfavorable ethnic distribution, and sad public transportation....and then not find a job and leave completely broke which I'm sure would be the case if I pursued other careers in entertainment in this economy such as standard acting or modeling.

Well the only way to make real money as a man in porn is gay porn, even if you're actually straight you can do it as "gay for pay." (Note that this does not mean you have to mess around with another guy as there are solo shoots, but you do make more when paired with others) those guys gangbanging the hot chicks in m/f porn are making nothing compared.

Assuming you have the looks and body for porn, there are outlets and businesses throughout the country in most major cities. LA is only one place where you can get started, though definitely one of the better ones as several of the major porn studios, gay or straight, are based here.
