I think that after talking with a lot of Angelenos, many of them will take a step back when you tell them you're an actress or an actor because they've all dealt with a seedy character trying to break into the industry.
Agreed on the shady aspect. I've also discovered that if you're at a party, and you first walk into a room, they pay attention to you "just in case" you're important. Once they find out you don't have anything for them, you're as good as invisible.

I hang with surfers and artists instead. Actors are over-rated.

wow that happened to me too. It's amazing how they will turn off like a light once they realize you're not an actor or someone in the industry.

Famous actors definitely get special treatment. They are catered to by local city officials and businesses.

On the subject of wannabe/aspiring actors..I think Angelenos especially native Angelenos or those that have lived here are long time are pretty tired of them. I can see respecting an accomplished actor , but sorry we will not bow down to you because you were the lead in your highschool's play and you think you're Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts because you got some headshots printed up.

It's always kind of awkward when you hear someone say they moved to L.A to pursue acting...I always cringe a little.

I went to a party full of working actors and comedians. They were unbearable and fake. Some of them seemed like they had issues too. Something tells me that Hollywood is not nice to this lot.

It sounds like the "working actors" overcompensate in several ways. Trying to be more important than they are. It must be annoying knowing any random person walking down the street has almost as good a chance at landing a small-time role as they do.

Working actors and comedians are literally like magicians and clowns hired to do gigs. They get little gigs here and there, a commercial, a comedy show and some indie work but overall it does not pay the bills

I've heard before they are sort of viewed as stooges, literally. It seems like a certain type of goofy male aspires to be a working actor. Comedians are always goofballs, and most aren't even that funny. I'm not sure how it is in LA - but a lot of guys (especially middle-class white) in the midwest try and have this overly sarcastic comedian personality, it is annoying.

Funny story. My youngest brother, who is not a star of any kind, was with friends celebrating his birthday in Beverly Hills. He is with a woman that is part of the family that owns the Limited Brands, her brother a high end realtor, his girlfriend a model, a friend that is on the Bravo show, "Million Dollar Listing", and 2 other B list celebrities. Nothing big especially for the place that they were eating.

At the end of the meal they are taking pictures with my brother and this very beautifull woman happens to be near by. She recognizes the other people but has no idea who my brother is. She askes someone who he is and is told his name. Still not knowing who he is she decides that she has to have her picture taken with my brother. I guess if B listers want to have their picture taken with him than he must be someone, right? She gets a few pictures with my brother and wanted to know about him. He tells her what he does and that he is a CFO for a company in the Thousand Oaks area. She realizes that he is not known but turns out that he is cool and she has since become his friend. Lucky him.

Was that beautiful woman a working actress? If not then it didn't matter that he wasn't a celeb.

If anything the CFO for a company in Thousand Oaks sounds better.

Yes. At this party where all the comics were rehearsing their schticks, they all had the same comedy. That same dead pan overly-sarcastic annoying humor. They all sucked too. I couldn't believe someone couldn't be that funny. When you shoot the **** with your buds things get funny, but I don't know why these guys weren't funny.
