Born and lived most of my life in LA. As a youth, I thought it was the most awesome place in the world and questioned why would anyone want to live anyplace else. Then, I joined the Navy and started traveling the world, experiencing different environments and cultures. When I came back "home", I remember thinking "this place stinks!" That was in the early 1970s.
Still, I worked my whole career at JPL, but always lived outside the basin, usually to the west in Ventura County or north in the Antelope Valley. I'd commute in for work, but leave every night. Upon retirement seven year ago, I was out! Loving my new life in North Idaho, (but I do miss the LA museums, theater plays, and the Hollywood Bowl).
