And I don't think anyone is jumping up and down at the prospect of becoming homeless. So what's causing the homeless INCREASE in LA and how can it be counteracted?

It looked as if Project 50 was successful several years ago. The County Board of Supervisors rejected a proposal to expand it in 2009.

Then why are there major homeless presences in parts of L.A. which do not have shelters, soup kitchens, etc. but which are within the city of Los Angeles?

In the case of Culver City it is right next to some of the most homeless-infested parts of Los Angeles, e.g. Palms, which is second only to Venice for homelessness on the westside, and yet does not suffer the same problems.
Burbank is right next to North Hollywood which has severe homeless problems, and yet is virtually homeless-free.

If Los Angeles' homeless policy is not super-liberal no one has a liberal policy towards the homeless. Los Angeles has surrendered. It is a sanctuary city for the homeless.

Ok, so how about you list the 'super-liberal' things Los Angeles has done to become a sanctuary city for the homeless?

And now Garcetti is ready to raise taxes , yay!

Most working people with " good jobs" can barely afford housing but they are going to be asked to chip in to house the homeless , nice

An increase in the sales tax , when it's already 9%? Absurd

----

Mayor Garcetti said today he will be going to voters for help to get the homeless problem solved in Los Angeles.

Speaking during an event where a trio of foundations put up 16-million dollars in loans and grants to expedite bringing housing and services, Mayor Eric Garcetti said why he’s ready to go to voters to raise money for housing.

“This crisis demands we stretch for every last dollar, like we did in this budget. Which is why I know these councilmen and I are committed to going to the voters to build on what the foundation world was inspired by when we stepped up with money.”

Garcetti later suggested a sales tax, document transfer fee, millionaires tax or tax on medical marijuana as examples to raise funds for building housing.

Treating the homeless as a protected class, letting them sleep in the streets and build encampments, turned a blind eye to crimes committed by the homeless, giving the homeless special rights and exemption from arrest, providing more services for them than other cities, welcoming them with open arms.....

2sleepy have you been to L.A recently ? You don't even have to visit skid row to see skid row type conditions anymore . It shouldn't be acceptable , other cities don't accept it .

Who's doing that?

"Unlike in New York, there is no legal right to shelter, and securing the money and political backing to build supportive housing throughout the county has been a struggle.

Alice Callaghan, a longtime advocate for the homeless on skid row, criticized city leaders for failing to stem the loss of housing.
“All we get from City Hall is breezy poetry — ‘I will house everybody by next year.' That's absurd. There's no housing to put people in,” Callaghan said. “It's very depressing. I don't think people understand how bad it is.”
