Not the ones I've seen. It's $500 + HOA to use their 3 treadmills and some guy to hold the door open for you.

FWIW, HOA dues NEVER include property taxes.

Yikes what's included in a $900 HOA fee?

Definitely not property taxes. The renovated "historic" buildings in the historic core are usually quite a bit lower ($400 to $500). The new high rise buildings (built in the last ten years) will be in that $600 to $900 range depending on size. As was noted, the HOA payments covers 24 hour security, common area maintenance (pool, fitness center, hallways, rooftop area, etc.) and possibly a concierge among other items.

Wow. I'm not saying you guys are lying, but I'm too lazy to look it up for myself but 700-900 for HOA is redic.

I thought 300-400 was bad in some newer suburban developments.

I too, wanted to live in a LA loft but although it has gotten better in terms of infrastructure and amenities, I got older and moved to the suburbs.

A couple of friends live in studio apartments and they are "cool" but not really somewhere I'd call home.

I'm the same way, I've pretty much decided I want to live in a cool loft like that, but they're pretty expensive. Most of the really cool industrial ones I've seen are in the Arts District. Is that a good area? And are there any other places with lots of lofts that are overlooked?

Awesome loft! If I lived in L.A. and had the salary, I would definitely live there. Here is my studio loft in downtown Lynchburg, VA for which I pay $650 + $100 for water, trash, gym access, cable and internet per month. It's definitely all about location location location!
