Ive posted in this forum before. Im from NYC and plan on graduating college soon and going to grad school out in the Orange County/LA area. Ive visited the area multiple times and am in love with it. I realize it's expensive and all but really coming from NYC nothing is worse. I love driving, and have family in the area. With all of that said, what would be the Pros and Cons of moving to SoCal (OC/LA?)

Crowded and ever more crowded with incredible traffic jams, super expensive to the point of not being able to afford a home unless you are very wealthy or want to live with a bunch of people in the house. Constant drought, wildfires, then mudslides in winter combined with an otherwise okay winter climate but cold ocean water in summer. Oh and then there is the air pollution. Cars, cars and more cars and poor public transit options.

Sounds like paradise.

i think thats a little harsh. i was there this past summer and walked right into the water and half the time i cant even do that in new york/jersey beaches. come to NY and sit on the cross bronx, LIE, jersey turnpike, etc it isnt that nice either. and all 10 of the most taxed counties in the country are in the tri state area.

NY/NJ water is typically warmer than SoCal's, although California's beaches look nicer (generally speaking). I'd say go for it, it's a move I'd like to make as well, I'm over NY.

Pros: seems like a lot of things to do

Cons: everything else

I would never ever move there, but this is not about me so if you want to make the move, go ahead.

LA looks really interesting, lots of different cultures and amazing food on offer. Would like to visit. Venice area looks awesome.

Someone I know has been to LA and they if you don't like it, you're just not doing it right.

Seriously, LA is way better than NYC IMO. I wouldn't hesitate if I were you. Just go and live in a mediterranean subtropical paradise

Pros: Lots of stuff to do, beaches and mountains nearby
Cons: Boring weather, cool SSTs in summer, lots of traffic and pollution, too much sprawl, high cost of living

I wouldn't want to move there, but if you have a good job and are willing to pay for an expensive house and like the area, I'd say go ahead.
