If you read between the lines, probably many Los Angeles residents would support comparatively mild measures to reduce the illegal immigration problem. Garcetti, who was only voted in by a small, vocal percentage of voting-eligible residents, should tread carefully.
Californians are well aware of the benefits of a huge supply of sub-minimum wage labor. Of course they want illegal immigration controlled, but not so much that gardeners, nannies, maids etc. cost more.

Supply and demand. Landlords don't like having empty units for long. A population decrease would mean a drop in rents. You're either assuming that LA has a lot fewer illegals than we do, or that the number of people moving in would keep pace with those who leave.

Especially in light of how public sentiment will embrace the lack of illegals making the community theoretically MORE desirable to citizens.

Comon. Help a brother out here.

If Trump were to deport 30% of 'undocumented aliens' from LA (in effect allegedly 3% percent of residents), I'd expect that to make a small, lingering effect on rents in the lower-income areas where they tend to reside.

There are of course other benefits to having fewer illegal immigrants around, including lower burden on social services and safer roads.

I have to question the judgment of anyone without close ties to illegal immigrants who would not support some reduction in their numbers.

True . I could see especially in some areas landlords being against doing anything about illegal immigration for fear that vacancy rates would go up.
I'm guessing it would be a gradual process though if it ever happens.

BTW , I'm a leftie too, but at the end of the day, my wallet and own survival is more important.

Supply and demand? If 10% of the population took off, there would not be a housing shortage.

I suppose a focus on newcomer illegal immigrants would gain the support of enough such double-talkers.
