He lived in Aliso Viejo not Venice. He went to Venice because he knew he could disappear into the homeless population like many criminals do. This has been a big thing ever since Jessica's Law passed, and 47 and 57 made it worse.

My guess is that those killings were drug related.

Here's the OP:

I know is a silly question, but you'll be surprised on how many people, NATIVES, think that Northridge, Van Nuys, Hollywood, San Pedro are really independent cities... To most, when someone says, "I'm going to LA" they think of DTLA! That's it.

More shocking, is when you try to explain them that neighborhoods like Northridge, Van Nuys, Hollywood, San Pedro, among others are really part of City of LA and not they're own city, they hit you with the

"No they're part of La County, but not part of LA..."

So honestly, how many of us in this forum, still think City of LA is confined to DTLA???

I think what makes LA look big are the other smaller cities surrounding it. Specially he san Gabriel valley, the Long Beach area, Orange County, the inland empire.

Good point. Look at TripAdvisor and you can see that most international visitors think of Disneyland as being “LA”.

As to the point of what locals consider To be “LA”, I don’t know if I’d agree that it’s all of LA County. Do people really consider Palmdale and Lancaster to be “LA”? Do most people even know where the county line is and what county places like La Mirada and Rowland Heights are in?

Personally I think that the only times that I would use the term LA without specifying where in LA I meant, would be when speaking to someone that’s not from LA and in that case I probably mean greater LA. Unless I know that they’re from OC and then I would presume that they’re sensitive to such things and I would mean they city of LA and adjacent areas (South Bay, Long Beach, Pasadena, Burbank, etc but not all of LA County).

There are 88 independent cities in Los Angeles County? Wow! I have learned something on city-data today. Is the entire city limits of Los Angeles also in Los Angeles County? That would be well over 3 to 4 million people PLUS 87 more municipalities in one county. I will say it again, wow!

CA cities have to be in the same county. Unlike in TX or NY

Guys, this wasn't supposed to be about tourist but rather natives.

The purpose of this threat, is because I recently starting working at LADOT (Los Angeles Department of Transportation), and we get a steady flow of calls from people in San Fernando (city), Glendale, Beverly Hills, Compton, and pretty much any city that border LA; about service requests. And all we gotta say is "you're not part of LA-- call you city"

But then we get calls from people in San Pedro, Chatsworth, Pacoima, etc and then because their part of City of La, we take their request.

This is what I'm referring to. How many natives know that these are the actual city limits of city of LA.
