After the hour-long drive in late May, the group converged on the sidewalk in front of a two- story house with Spanish-tile roofing belonging to Gina Kim — their landlord’s daughter.

“Vulture landlord, get a real job! Vulture landlord, get a real job!” the tenants shouted. A pair of police cars soon arrived.

But chanting is not the only way the tenants are making their feelings known. Since the eviction notices were posted some eight months ago, they have refused to pay rent.

Gina Kim says she feels aggrieved and not just because of the noise. She said in an email that she respects tenants’ right to free speech, but she takes exception to how they have mentioned her children during the protests. She said demonstrators have shouted through a bullhorn that while the noisy demonstration may make it difficult for her kids to sleep, she should think about the young children her father is evicting.

Freedom of assembly. Freedom to protest. Freedom of speech. These are the consequences of buying a low income property in a place where there is a housing shortage to flip it to make it even more ridiculously profitable. Let them be annoyed and inconvenienced...just as they are doing so to their tennants.

Solution? The landlord cant afford to lose money and the tenants can't afford the rent, who must change?

Bring back more public housing, let the government deal with it so that the landlords that you like to carry water for don't have to deal with it (though I'm sure you'll just say the tenants should move to flyover country)

Sure , freedom of assembly . The landlord also have the right to develop the property they legally own don’t you agree ?

This property was purchased as a distressed property , there was no money in operating it as it is .

Also don’t the tenants have a legal right to pay their rent ? It said they haven’t been paying rent in months as part of their “rent strike” .

The landlord has no legal or moral right to provide cheap housing .
Also these protestors are trying to make it seem like the Korean landlords are evicting the tenants because “racism” such a joke .

Because the government does such a great job running public housing projects .

What is flyover country ? In Texas alone there are multiple cities over a million people with strong economies , affordable and lower unemployment .
Why shouldn’t they move there ?

Calling the rest of the country fly over country is an outdated mentality .

People who rent aren’t allowed to complain of being evicted. This is why you OWN property people. Some people honestly think they will pay 800$ In rent for the rest of their life in up and coming markets like Los Feliz and Koreatown, LOL.

I feel like our K-12 school system should emphasize on the importance of saving up for a single family house in their futures to avoid being one of these delusional, unrealistic lifetime renters who are strongly anti gentrification.

The worst types are the ones who argue, “My family goes back 3 generations in this neighborhood. I was born and raised here and I don’t want anymore outsiders moving in because they’re ruining the culture and increasing rents”.

The majority of the industrialized world rents, we are an odd ball. Germany for example has a 70/30 renter to owner ratio

Yeah it’s the entitltement mentality . People have moved in and out of cities for cheaper housing or better opportunities for thousands of years .

They want socialism and the politicians seem willing to appease them in order to get them to keep voting for them and remain in power .

OK you pay for public housing as that is where the money comes from ... your pocket.It will cost a LOT.



I am not carrying water for anyone just speaking about reality.


Tenants should pay or leave. That is what happens to every person who bought a house and can't make the payments, why should renters be free of paying what they owe?
