Remember when we had the freedom to go to a firework stand and buy all sorts of cool stuff like Roman candles, pinwheels, fountains, and even pagoda things that spun around and telescoped upward? And you could light off all this cool **** wherever you wanted -- people were even tacking pinwheels to trees in downtown SM and lighting them as well as fountains and all the rest to celebrate whilst we also watched the fireworks from the pros over SM bay. There was so much smoke from everybody's fireworks that it was almost like a fog in downtown SM. That **** was so ****ing cool -- I miss those days.

Remember when sparklers used to be a thing at the beach?

Yep. I remember all the other stuff at the beach too -- even the bottle rockets with the stems removed.

I never understood why my work gives me off the fourth. I don’t do anything during the day on the fourth. I’d rather have the 5th off since I won’t sleep much tonight due to my not so bright neighbors doing their best to not keep any fingers.

I did not know that. In recent years I've seen a few small fireworks set off in small quantities (e.g. a group of teenagers set off a fountain and then run away), and I hear them in the distance, but nothing big in a long time like we had in the past in the coastal areas, where it looked like "Baghdad" as another poster described.

Fireworks in my neighborhood still going strong at 11PM right now.

Well unboggle your mind, because this is the video from my neighborhood of non-professionals lighting fireworks:

Blame the new NIMBY coastal residents. I know people from other parts of the LA area and they celebrated the same way yesterday as when they were kids. Why? Their side doesn't get the new transplants from out of state, nor do they have the "Get of my Lawn" retired people who hate the noise now. Fireworks went off from about 7:30p-11:30p yesterday

Come to the 818 they were doing them past 2am by me last night .
Seems to be a sanctuary for illegal fireworks here .
Not sure if Comrade Garcetti has official announced the policy though .
