From a purely philosophical/ideological point of view here, I agree they might be over-asking for the exempted to not have to pay for any testing, but if the mandate conflicts with state labor law, the city can't ignore that. Their union would be remiss to not bring it up.

Going all the way back to the beginning of this, a testing option for those with exemptions isn't a big deal and all of this could've been avoided had the city acted more reasonably in the first place.
I can't think of one good reason why taxpayers should have to pay in the neighborhood of $800 a month for every cop who refuses to get vaccinated to get tested.

State law?
This is why I said this is a labor issue first and foremost.

From twitter -

After threats that 10,000 NYPD officers could quit the force over the NYC vaccine mandate, the actual number going on unpaid leave today was 34.

Also a good time to remember that the biggest killer of US police in 2020 and 2021 was COVID.

With due respect, far from being that simple, imho.

It is no one's business or right to force or even judge anyone else about getting vaccinated, especially when it comes to such a questionable, DNA altering one with the derogatory side effects that we are just becoming aware of.

Related information from the officials and media is also questionable, at best, if not inaccurate and/or manipulated.

To each his own, truly.

Myth: The mRNA vaccines change your DNA and could cause cancer.
Truth: None of the vaccines interact with or alter your DNA in any way, and therefore cannot cause cancer.

Will a COVID-19 vaccine alter my DNA?
No. COVID-19 vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way. Both mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines deliver instructions (genetic material) to our cells to start building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. However, the material never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where our DNA is kept.

George Washington mandated his troops to be vaccinated against smallpox during the Revolution … it goes that far back. And kids have been required to be vaccinated against polio for generations.

Not arguing for or against the mandates… just pointing out fallacious arguments by others.
