Hey, maybe we can get a group of women together and open up a chain of "Studs" all across Maine. We can employ some of these otherwise unemployable males - of course, we will have to judge you based on looks, hygiene and general desirability! We won't, however, have to ask where you worked last and where else you've applied!

me too!! I got way behind on some of these threads! we're on vacation this week

About the job thing, my oldest daughter works at Mickey d's and it's working out well for her. She's 17--they work around all the school stuff, including athletics. There's one lady that works there that has been there since it opened here in Calais---about 32 years ago! Guess she's not prideful!

I worked at Wally World (Wal-Mart, for those of you not in "the know") for 12 years and while it wasn't my first choice..I would always take pride in a job well done. I do hope Mickey D's is nicer to their people for you daughter's sake miss molly.

On the flip side, there is always room for advancement within such a large corporation if she desires.

i never look down upon anyone!! in fact i respect the man and woman,,,who are working hard labor jobs,,and undesirable jobs!!!

And I dont even have earings, tatoos, etc. Just a clean cut, healthy average guy in my late 20's.

The job market in Maine sucks.
Only to get worse by the closure of NAS Brunswick, Maine's 2nd largest employer. I feel so bad for all the retired military that have setteled in Maine, now goes the base and commissary..it's so sad.

The way I figure it, job = $$ = NOT freezing and starving in the cold and dark. Now, mind you I like the cold and dark, just not the freezing and starving part! LOL I'll do food, I'll do janitor, I'll do office (if it doesn't require heels and makeup and a stylish "do"), data entry... I have done production line work... and would do any of these again as long as the pay was enough for my simple needs. I like being a graphic designer, mind you... but even if I do something else for my main job, I will still BE a graphic designer for the clients that stick with me through the move, and any I pick up later. To me, labels are not important, what counts is what you get done!

I won't do retail, though... my personal quirk... I abhorr the waste that it generates and could not spend even 8 hrs filling a cart with a gazillion plastic bags, each holding 2 or three things...

(so now y'all know my dirty little secret) LOL

We have until 2011 until it closes.

I am retired military, my wife works at the commissary in Bangor.

NAS Brunswick is not the only base.

Also don't forget the USCG commissaries.

And I have found that be being farther from an active-duty base we get far better medical treatment. We are now seen by civilian doctors who have been to college and have medical degrees, no more corpsmen treating us.

I agree with the need to save on our resources. Tell you what, our "Studz" can wear itty bitty fabric shorts, no shirts - and we'll have them made of all natural materials! We'll join in the conservation efforts and advertise our chain as a "Friendly Environment", I mean, "Environmentally Friendly!"

No other bases in Maine compare to the size of NAS Brunswick. I know there is still a lot of time and I really hope BRAC is able to hold on to as many jobs in Maine or create new ones with the closure.
