That's not a city. "Quaint" streets more conducive to wrecks than a pleasant drive. Not enough parking. The "city" lies about parking being free, then collects hundreds of tickets during the Holiday season. Cyclists act like they own the narrow streets. Overpriced "merchants" on Main Street support the parking bait-and-switch. Driving on Rt 40 anytime of day or night is horrible not to mention all the Asians who can't drive. They tend to stop right on Rt 40 in heavy busy traffic and cause lots of accidents. Plus other drivers who seem to be on their cell phones all the time.
Taxes are high as well as the home market. People are rude and seem privileged. They spend millions of dollars on libraries then on public safety and roads and bridges. Commuting on Rt29, Rt100 gets worse everyday.

You could have described any larger city in America. And Taxes are high were the jobs are. Move to the south.

I "can't" decide if I like the whining, the racism, or "the" random quotation marks "most."

Hope you feel better now. We hear that a lot from people who really want to live here but can't afford it. Sounds like you'd be happier somewhere else, anyway. Good luck!

Correct, Ellicott City is not a real city, if by "city" you're thinking of places like New York. Anyone who comes here expecting Manhattan, based on the name, is going to be disappointed. Would it be better if it were called Ellicott Mills or something?

Parking on Main Street is free. It's also timed. If you park longer than your allowed time, you are subject to being ticketed. This is not something that is unique to Ellicott City.

Not excusing aggressive cyclists, but in their defense, Main Street is so narrow that the only place they can go is in the traffic lane. Blame the narrow topography for this one.

In what ways do the merchants support the parking "bait and switch"? My understanding is that they have lobbied for free parking and expansion of parking availability.

Route 40 isn't the most scenic of drives, I can't deny that one. (It isn't any prettier in the OP's hometown of Catonsville.) And we all have our favorite Bad Asian Driver stories. 'Nuff said. If it's Asians you wish to avoid, I would agree, Ellicott City is not for you.

The county does spend a lot of money on libraries, that's true. But public safety isn't being shortchanged, as far as I can tell. Have you seen the big new fire station that just opened in Elkridge? Different town, sure, but they serve the eastern part of Ellicott City.

Traffic on Routes 29 and 100 . . . yeah, can't argue with that one.

All of this is to say, Ellicott City is not the place for the OP. Hopefully Catonsville is more to his liking. But plenty of other people do like Ellicott City, even with its flaws.

I'll be sure to tell the other grumpy racist snowflakes how they should feel. But first I need to make sure they were lucky enough to live in one of the most desirable and expensive zip codes in the country.

You're joking right, if not ,you're an Idiot that needs to go back to whatever dump you came from! I was just up at Ellicott city this past weekend, great place and had a great time. I found parking on the main drag within 5 min of driving down main street, no issues! Great breweries and food there along with a nice open funky vibe. Everybody I ran into there was great. Also , Its a very historic place to go wine and dine , not made for living full time, and its not a city. You sound very much like your from Pissburgh!
