Also your map proves that Salisbury is riddled with high crime rates. It's definitely not a "feeling". It's very real.
Neither is Bowie, Laurel, Annapolis, Hagerstown, Waldorf, Alexandria, Wilmington DE, etc etc. So what is your point...

Crime is petty crimes, not violent crimes, 2010 was when it was a spike in violent crimes... Same with PG County. There has been a reduction in crime and more initiatives to help crime.

In 2011 the crime in all those categories were down. The most is thefts according to that chart.

That is good. I've studied several cities that dropped way down over a 5-6 year period while others went down the tube. I look more to the Rape, Murder, and burglary stats. Assault I normally think of as bar room brawls or domestic violence that would not effect me. Burglary sounds not so bad but can lead to murder. Sting Bean and his wife of the Grand Ole Opry surprised a burglar and were murdered in cold blood. Never will forget. Stat's like arson and car thefts don't bother me as those are everywhere and I have ins on cars and I don't plan on burning my house down for the ins money either.

merely that Salisbury is thug ridden. and you are right about Annapolis. Annapolis is very thuggy. Not a good place anymore.

I guess another point is to help steer people clear of bad areas. Some towns in Maryland, like the ones you listed, are in a tailspin. Sometimes it's not as noticeable when you are looking at stats or demographics or whatever when you are considering moving there. I think it's pretty clear that safe middle class communities in Maryland are fading. It's either rich parts of AA county, Howard County, Hartford county, parts of Montgomery county, far southern Md., or bumpkin towns on the shore to be somewhat safe from major crime and stupid people. You aren't getting away from either completely but you're a little better off there. Still, I'm not happy with what is going on in my home state. Not happy at all. PG county and Baltimore City are an embarrassment. Annapolis and Salisbury are heading in that direction. Montgomery County, long known for it's affluence and good schools is turning now too. Obviously there are very nice parts of Annapolis and Montgomery county but they are both on the decline.

Thuggery has taken over and it has to do with what young people are idolizing and of course the growing chasm between the haves and have nots. I live in Austin now. Same thing is happening here.
