It must have been because of all the buildings, they didn't have a lot of trees, especially around power lines.

I'm going to say shovel a few times rather than all at once. Especially in these big storms. I use to argue this one all the time with my father when I was a kid. I would want to wait until the storms were over. My father wanted me helping him shovel 2 or 3 times while the snow was falling. When I was older and out on my own with my own home. I found his way was actually better and easier in the end.

Oddly the wind is helping me right now...all the snow is in the yard but none on the tops of our cars or our stairs/walkway...the wind is so strong it is blowing the snow to the areas that really don't matter if they get shoveled...my lights have flickered on and of throughout the night I just pray we don't lose power that is the only thing I care about...I'd rather be buried under blankets of snow with power than have 2" of snow and no power.

The wind helped a lot. It's like someone shoveled my yard overnight. I can see the grass and the ground in the middle, and the bushes are covered with 4 foot drifts. It's pretty impressive. No power lost here!

Last night at 9 pm I went out & snow-blowed the driveway & sidewalk, there was probably 6-8 inches. Got up today, another 2 feet of snow, I snow-blowed it all again. Now, there's more snow.

The waiting for the "all at once" shoveling, or snow-blowing, that can backfire on you in a major snowstorm, esp. if you're shoveling......
