Does anyone have experience with house sitting in MA? In our quest to relocate here we realize I may need to start my job before my family can move here (and we can give proper 30 day notice to our landlord, etc). I looked for rooms to rent and they seem, for lack of a better word, very sketchy or college aged kids looking for a roommate. Craigslist seems to have a lots of scams. I did find a few house sitting website but the results mainly yielding in people looking for pet sitters for a weekend or week at a time. I am looking to house sit for a month or so because it would give me the opportunity to start my new job and get housing situation finalized for my family. We still haven't decided if we will rent or buy, but being in the area will give me the opportunity to do that.

Would contacting a realtor help me find house sitting jobs? Is there a Boston-based website for this that I haven't explored yet?

ETA: I would be willing to drive within an hour radius of Boston. Doesn't have to be Boston. Could be Worcester area, heck even Providence, NH..... It would only be for a couple of months so I'm not opposed to traveling far if it means my family can get out there.

The rental market around here is very strong so I doubt you'll find many good house sitting opportunities, as people would rather rent out their places and make money. You might try and see if any of the colleges in the area have opportunities, with professors leaving for sabbatical.

OP for what it is worth, even if there are people looking for someone like that, you coming out of state would not be very good candidate. Most people would look for someone local, or more familiar.

Also many folks would simply use airbnb which what you should do as well.

Good luck.

I don't have any leads for you but I have run into stories of people house sitting in Providence where the housing market is not as strong as Boston... Contacting a realtor might help you find a gig, though as has been noted coming from out of state will make it more challenging. I imagine you'll have to have impeccable references.
