I'm currently working in Boston and commuting from Cumberland, RI (about an hour and a half door to door). My lease is up shortly, and in May I'll be done with my Master's degree, allowing me to get a (better) different job.

I don't like my current apartment and want to move. Since I'm a higher ed. professional (administration), it's important that I keep my options open by being close to the "college-cities" like Providence and Boston. I really want to work at Brown University come May, but it's extremely competitive and there is no guarantee. That's why I also need to keep my options open in Boston.

My question is where is a good location in MA that I could live and commute to Providence AND to Boston by NOT increasing my commute time? I prefer shorter, but I understand I may be searching for the impossible.

I want to mention that would like to rent and my budget is up to 2,000, but preferably with three bedrooms or a basement.

I appreciate any input you all can give me. Thank you!

Attleboro, MA is very nice, and has a train station. You could get closer to Boston but that will be more $$$$.

I think you should wait to see where you land a new job prior to moving. Then move.

Best of luck.

This is what I would do. Though I don't know how bad an apartment you have now. I'd go hard for Brown for the next 6 months, and if nothing happens, just move to Boston.

pick a town with MBTA service. You could use it in both directions if along the Providence line. Driving 90 minutes is not my cup of tea and that is time you could put to better use.

I am not a frequent rider on the commuter rail, but my experiences have been good. It's pretty quiet, pretty smooth, nice big windows to watch the world go by, passengers don't seem sketchy... seats are generously sized, all in all, a pretty relaxing way to go... whether you want to work on your laptop, read a book or just sleep, it works.

I also think Mansfield is the best choice. There are many apartment complexes there. In fact, you can get a nice spacious apartment in the brand new complex for $2K, so I am sure you can find to rent a house with a basement etc for $2K in Mansfield...
