Despite their desperation to "stick it to Trump", they are fighting a losing battle. Warren certainly isn't the answer either, on that front. Calling for the abolishment of ICE (yes she did say it, owns it and cannot take it back now), does not win the confidence of any but the most extreme voters.
Personally i think trump has a very weak hand with the wall shutdown. His only way out is a path to citizenship for dreamers for full wall funding... unless we see a migrant caravan with 100,000 people, i dont see a way out for him.

What we need is a total over hall and rewrite of our immigration policy. Our current process is unreasonable! People who have been here for a long time, should not have to return to places that are unsafe for them, and then wait up to Ten years to return to their US born children, and the person they married! Often their only crime is overstaying visa, or initial entry without papers. Sometimes there are "crimes" attributed to them such as driving without a license, in a time when one could not be obtained without citizenship or papers they lacked. Violations stack up when there is no way to resolve the issue! Many people have been co-operating with INS for years and have been given extensions to their stay. They go in to a regular hearing, and now they get shipped off without an opportunity to say goodby to their children.

We have an unworkable system, and THE WALL is not the answer!

I'm pretty far to the left on social issues, bordering socialist and even I think this is wrong.
Just because you went a long time without being caught breaking the law doesn't mean you get amnesty or clemency.

That said, the wall is nothing but a distraction used by the far right i.e. Fox. More Americans would benefit from a legitimate health plan than curbing illegal immigration. Obama tried both, he deported more people than any previous president AND tried a universal health mandate.

It's the Far Right that is driving the average American towards socialized medicine. When big businesses started producing offshore, cutting full time jobs to part time and not offering healthcare plans people were left with no option to go on MassHealth... welfare medical. Now, we all pay when Walmart's workers get sick and Walmart calls it profit. I don't see how that benefits me, a 50-70 hour per week worker.

I agree with existing folks needing a compassionate solution... but how to prevent the billion NEW people from flooding in? There are literally a billion poor people who would risk life and death to come here

In total agreement that no matter how long your unlawful presence in this country is, you know there is always that risk of being sent back. Have kids in the US, well you are free to bring them back to country X with you. Nothing is stopping you. Give us all the sob stories you want, the person who has been waiting patiently and trying to do things the right way is not going to find a whole lot of sympathy.

But the person living here illegally for 20 is not the issue here, totally independent from our need for the wall. It is a full blown crisis down there. Wall won't solve 100% of the problem, but it would enable the way overstretched Border Patrol to focus on select vulnerabilities. Otherwise, things will only continue to get worse. We are talking dangerous, hardened criminals here. Cartels, child smugglers, terrorists. Not your simple visa overstay.
