We are thinking about moving and my 15 year old would have to take Fitchburg line a lot if we do ...(Kendall to north Station for example)

I never took a train... is it save for a teenager to use alone?

Thanks

The Fitchburg line doesn't go to Kendall, maybe you mean Porter?

And it is very safe. Aside from common advice like don't hang around an empty place late at night there should be no issues. I'd be more worried about reliability than safety, and even that isn't much of a concern.

Yes. My 13 year old niece took it from Fitchburg to Waltham and North Station and back a few times alone.

In general yes it's safe. Would I want my teenager riding the CR by themselves at 11 pm? Probably not.

I don't ride the Fitchburg line, but from my occasional experiences on the Newburyport line, there are fewer sketchier looking individuals on the Commuter Rail than the T... it's more of people looking like they're dressed for work...

I hate to be sexist, but a 15 year old boy versus a 15 year old girl riding the train is a different issue. Not their issue, but the perverts issue.

The train is safer than the city of Boston so if you're already having her go to North Station she'll be fine.

That definitely used to be the case. Glad to hear it still is so.
