OP, it would help if you provided: your ideal commute time, approximate housing budget, housing expectations, the type of area you like (rural, suburban, urban), and a better idea of how good the schools need to be.
And keep in mind that you may also have some options in Rhode Island.

Sharon is the closest for a top ranked school which is what you seem to be aiming for. However, as you noticed it is hard to find a rental there. If you are looking for an apartment complex, Avalon in Sharon is the only one I know of, but its not cheap.
