This seems to be somewhat of a gray area in regards to Covid restrictions. For example, does the 14 day quarantine rule apply to travel from the north shore of Boston to NH, South shore to RI, western mass to upstate NY? Is the state government planning to add states that are safe to travel to without quarantine or other such issues? I'm looking at planning a road trip to two for July and August, but if I'm required to do the 14 day quarantine (and essentially be out of work for another 2 weeks after returning) then I might have to forget about doing anything this summer. Input would be appreciated.

This is going to depend on your employer. If they don't care if you quarantine after going to NH or RI, then you're good to go.

MA doesn't even try to enforce their quarantine recommendations. We arrived from overseas post-lockdown in March and all we got was a "try to not go out too much for a while" from officials at the airport. If they're treating air arrivals that lackadaisically, arrivals via car are more or less ignored.

Thanks for the reply. I guess it's tough to enforce anything on the state level since the travel guidelines are so unclear. I will talk to my employer, as you suggested.

From my perspective, are you the person who wants to travel around until you catch the virus from someone else? Or, are you the person who wants to travel around giving the virus to all the rest of us you might pass along the way?

It is basically something they can't enforce, but sounds great. Makes governors sound like dictators. It is funny that Cuomo now wants everyone to quarantine in the state if they come, but didn't expect the same when new yorkers left and went to other states. No other state did that when they were the "hotbed", but now he thinks New York has done such a great job nobody should visit.

You would not have to quarantine going into NY from MA. These are the states that have to quarantine (website so you can check for updates):

https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/co...ravel-advisory

@LeavingMA Other states have certainly done this before. Florida to this day has quarantine orders for NY residents. Rhode Island had the police out stopping any cars with NYS tags and went door to door looking for NYers so... certainly not the first to do this.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.dem...amp/2935388001

While certainly hard to enforce considering many of the states listed are not neighboring states and many may fly in its pretty easy to pick out flights coming from those states as a start, checking into hotels with drivers license from those states etc.

Oh I know other states have done this, although its rare and barely enforceable. I just like how NY has been complete hypocrites on this issue.

You could do license plates, unless they got one from a rental place or so...they could still be local. But sure, let us "rat out" everyone. Realistically is it a big issue. When something like 8% are testing positive for this virus, just to assume somebody from another state has the virus is ridiculous. It is just as likely their own state has it.

I don’t see how NY is a hypocrite... yes they were the hotbed but they certainly didn’t encourage residents to travel to other states, in fact they recommended they quarantine themselves if they did travel. Now after shutting down and getting to low numbers they are only mandating quarantine for visitors from states with 10% or more transmission rate. Considering how some states continue to open despite increasing numbers one can only expect infection rates to increase.

*NYS is around 1% testing positive currently so there is a difference https://forward.ny.gov/percentage-po...gion-dashboard

Rental companies are probably also going to be checking the drivers license you give them to determine if you’re from one of the states, along with hotels, airlines etc. It would be quite the hassle to try to get around the quarantine seeing that none of the states are really all that close. Unless you’re willing to fly into Pennsylvania (no idea whether or not they have quarantine orders or not but I know NJ and CT have the same orders as NY) rent a car there then drive into NY and stay at a family members house and not a hotel? Seems like a stretch. I honestly doubt that many people from those states were planning on visiting anyway but hey maybe I’m wrong.

Here are the states:
Alabama
Arkansas
Arizona
Florida
North Carolina
South Carolina
Texas
Utah

Well just the fact they were the hotbed and nobody stopped them going to NY, and now NY is acting like they did such a great job of controlling the virus and criticizing everyone else.

I think NY has just had a lot of publicity with the daily briefings Cuomo gives and what not.
Like I said a lot of states, esp those around NY like Rhode Island were literally stopping NYS plated cars, other states also singled out NY residents for quarantine (not saying it was wrong at the height of it but considering transmission rates are low now perhaps doesn’t make too much sense anymore) so NY has had its fair share of travel bans

What I don’t understand is MA ban on “all” travel. We’re actually moving to MA from NY, wasn’t planning on changing the car plates right away but looks like we might have to if we don’t want to get stopped all the time.
