Quincy is one of the 10 largest cities in Massachusetts. Only Lynn and Lowell in the north of Boston region would be similar. Malden and Peabody would be the next most likely communities.

Lynn and Lowell have ZERO in common with Quincy. You can't be serious?

Quincy is nice. They might not brag about it but it's close to the water and has pretty good red line and commutters rail access. My family has some roots there. I'm not exactly a fan of the way the city government is run... But they didn't go crazy in making malls and strip malls. The population didn't grow but didn't shrink either. I still miss that crane.

Lowell doesn’t have anything in common with Quincy? Really?

Yes really.

Signed somebody who previously lived in Quincy and had a family member living in Lowell at the same time.

It's a bit of a closed shop so to speak. You literally have to be in their union before you apply for a position there. I don't think any other place in New England does it that way. Then again that was pre Janus decision.

BBMM, what do you think Lowell and Quincy have in common?

(All Asians aren't the same - if that's where you're going with this.)

Malden or Salem would be my picks for "something like Quincy". Maybe more so Malden in terms of population? don't know enough about Lowell but it's supposedly gentrified quite a bit.

I know all Asians aren’t alike. In fact Cambodians and Chinese are pretty different.

I understand Quincy is more middle class and less rough around the edges but overall they are both:

somewhat affordable for being in the Boston metro.

Both have tons of rentals and there of relatively similar size

similar racial diversity statistics.

Both have a historic colonial or industrial past.

They both have significantly revitalized and reworked downtowns.

Both are relatively safe compared to other cities their size

Both are centers of Asian immigration

Water plays a significant role in the geographies of both cities
