There is also the reality that our world population is exploding and farmland is shrinking. The United States is being increasingly relied on to feed the world, and the pressure is on to increase production (in other words do more with less) of our agriculture industry.

That's why it's understandable to limit the space to 1.5sqft which, btw, it's basically the footprint of a chicken. So they may be free ranging but there isn't much range to go.

If you really want to be green it's much better to move to a large apartment complex (reducing considerably your footprint) rather than living in a SFH with a yard and a small chicken coop.

And BTW, if you think that the chicken raised in poor countries are typically raised ethically think again. I spent years of my life living of tiny family farms outside the US and when people NEED the food the welfare of the animals is not their primary concern. A $100k+ household in the Boston suburbs is not representative of that world

None needs any excuse to consume whatever eggs they want. And BTW, I typically get cage-free eggs but that's not what I am talking about.

Since when were eggs getting away if you didn't cage them?

If the poor world actually became even moderately richer and started to consume accordingly the amount of extra food needed would be staggering.
If everyone in the world started to consume like the average American get ready for war.

Perhaps it is time for Americans to consume more reasonably?

Agreed. Now go ahead and tell people to eat less meat. I will be standing slightly behind you, so when you get punched in the face people don't think I am associated with you

You're personifying chickens. In this thread, I've consistently been referring to food-insecure children. You'd rather some brown or black kid in a housing project go hungry because their single mother can't afford $4.00/dozen eggs from chickens that listen to Mozart. I'm about to go buy some cod for dinner that was ripped out of the ocean and suffocated to a horrible death on a fishing boat deck.

There is tons of truth that most of our ag land is wasted to grow livestock feed, instead of crops.

Not subsidizing the meat/dairy/etc industry would probably cut down on meat consumption.

I always laughed in Wisconsin when people would talk about "coastal elites" needing the farmers of Wisconsin for food... I'm like, um, for the soy/corn you grow to feed to dairy that they really don't need at all, nevermind import that far except as cheaper low quality cheeses that are subsidized to be as cheap as they are? No.

Heck, atleast during WWII, Wisconsin was leading the way in sugar beets to make sugar which went far and wide and was probably more needed.

Of course it's not. It's because you care deeply about the people living in New Bedford triple deckers.
