Our 25 hens drop an egg every 25 hours and are treated better than most kids in Massachusetts foster care. I'm glad more care is out there for chickens than unwanted kids Be noted ,sarcasm.
Please ,a show of hands of anyone here lived in a farm..I thought so.

You raise a good point. I feel it is important for people to be involved with farming and/or farm animals, even if for a short time, particularly at an early age. Maybe they can make it a part of the school curriculum, or better still, maintain a small farm on or within school grounds for some real education.

I come from the developing world where a lot of folks just a few decades ago would raise their own livestock. Butchering was always done with a heavy heart and rarely would meat be wasted. Now we have hundreds of millions who have no idea what it takes to produce dairy/meat/eggs, and, as a result, have little or no empathy towards animals or their suffering.

The article above came out today and the quoted numbers quite honestly are depressing. Out of a billion meat birds raised in this country, 300 million end up in landfills/incinerators.

Speaking of foster care, 50% of foster care children end up homeless as adults. It ties in with poverty, food insecurity, and soaring food costs.
