People just need to stop moving here!

I actually think Boston could benefit from a recession in the corporate world. Too many overpaid people. I kind of feel similar to remy in that I appreciate how much my house is worth now but I'm also not looking to sell so whatever.

I see, it seems like a relative perception thing...I have a coworker in NH who said something similar about people from MA moving to where he wanted to buy a home when he was getting outbid all the time.

I fully expected people not from here to disagree, which is why I deleted the comment somewhat quickly.

Hey, you can always go visit Britney in Kentwood when you go back to your place of birth!
Eh, I was born and raised in Mass. Moved away after undergrad. Came back and moved away (wash and repeat). I really don't think its that big a deal. The vast majority of people I went to high school with, and people I went to undergrad with, didn't end up living the in the state they were born in.

It's a big country, its good to move around some. There are lots of great places to live.

That said, the smaller communities and poorer states are increasingly filled with people that can't get out. The best and brightest move away, for the most part. At least Boston doesn't have that issue.

Same in Rhode Island.

Yes! That is happening too. Sounds like you don't care that your NH co worker is constantly getting outbid by MA people.

What I see is people getting rich and cashing out to move to not as expensive areas and pocket some cash, but still making it difficult for the people trying to have a normal life.

It's not that I don't care, there's not much I can do about it. I'm keeping my dollars in MA, is that helping him?

My point was more to address the other posters who believe there's something special about MA "natives" that don't apply to others.

You've made it clear that you could care less about MA natives. No one said there is anything special about being born in MA. I've met people I like and dislike from all over. Plenty of native born people from MA I wish would move. A few did and I was happy.

Can't wait to go vote today.

Let's not make it so negative. I care about MA natives as much as I do about anybody else.

Unless I misread or misunderstand, that is not true. From others upthread:

"Some coming in with their California mega bucks (among others), driving up prices for basic houses so that many folks who have grown up here don't even stand a chance at home ownership in their home state?"

"If you’re not a MA native and you haven’t had to watch people you care about leave behind everything they’ve ever known and loved and head to some strange faraway state, you just don’t get it."

Um I don't take what she is saying to mean that MA natives are more important. She is expressing sorrow about ma natives who wanted to stay here but couldn't afford it. Where did anyone say that being born in MA makes you special?

If you go to forums of other areas that have been dramatically affected by globalization and gentrification you will see similar conversations and sentiments. Hint: You're in a MA forum so of course the sentiments will be about MA natives.

Another quote: "However, the people who are moving away are the ones who were born here and want to live here but are in a way being forced out as they are left with few other choices."

I read both quotes implying that if you didn't grow up here (in MA) you don't really understand the issue. They seem to miss that what is happening here is happening in many states, particularly those with big cities. It's not a MA issue...it's an American issue rooted in the current system.
