Doesn't everyone shut off their engine when pumping gas? There are warnings signs at the pumps for a reason.

You think $500/month is enough for a person to stop working?

Sure, if they're already getting rental assistance, EBT benefits and such.

Do you actually know the benefit amounts and how they work?

Depends on household size but say a house of 2, they get around $500/month plus an extra $60/month put back on their EBT if they use SNAP. In addition they can get $400 clothing allowances for every person under 19 living in their household. Yes, some folks genuinely need and deserve these benefits. However, there are far too many that cheat the system and cost taxpayers boatloads with their abuse of the system. For those that abuse it, $560/month for food, $400 clothing allowance plus an extra $500/month from the city of Cambridge (if they live there) isn't too shabby is it if they have only one household member working?! What's the motivation for the other to go out and get a job?

$1300 per month is a motivation for a person not to work in Cambridge MA!!! We literally lost logic in this thread
Maybe you still living in the 80s or something!
$1300 per month is giving you a headache because it's coming from your taxes,,, get a life for god sake, and stop whining!

Sounds as if you like socialism....it appears that's where we're headed in this state.

When I was in graduate school, my RA wage was something like $1600 per month, before tax.
I used that to cover rent, food, transportation and entertainment. That was not too many years ago in Massachusetts.

What income level does this household have to be to qualify? And in this situation you describe you say household of 2 but one of them is a child?

Did you have children? Roommates? Years ago as in before the recent high inflation?
