Seattle and Portland have fewer hours of sun than Massachusetts.

And that’s why I left Seattle (among many reasons). I find Boston noticeably sunnier at all times of the year. This past month has felt like a cruel stretch of Seattle weather and I say that with complete derision. Upper 30s/40s with rain has to be the absolute weather there is.

I guess the drought must be over.

Down here in the banana belt, it melted as it hit the driveway but some of the lawn is white. It will be fully melted back to green grass by afternoon. We were in Providence yesterday afternoon. At 3pm, inland driving I-195 on the South Coast was a winter wonderland.

The snow shovel is still somewhere in the garage. Same for the snow tires.

And of course we got dumped on as soon as I said it. My arms and back are pretty sore from shoveling yesterday and this morning. It's going to snow more tomorrow too, ugh.

We drove from Boston to Burlington at around 6:30pm to meet some friends for dinner. in Boston, it was collecting on the trees, grass, and untreated sidewalks, but the roads were mostly fine. By the time we hit Burlington, the roads were in rough shape (though still far from impassible), and parking lots looked like they had been seeing accumulation for some time. This morning back in Boston, we have some frozen slush on sidewalks and what looks to be an inch, maybe two on roofs. A far cry from what looked to be 5 inches or so at 7pm last night in Burlington, just 12 miles away as the crow flies.

On a related note, I can't remember the last time we had anything more than whispers of sun peaking through the clouds. Yes, winter in New England is cold and dark, but this stretch seems particularly dreary.

I can see it peaking through the clouds from time to time, but it's pretty overcast here.

Here in Northampton, it was more of a slush snow. It finally more or less covered everything, but not by a whole lot.

It's pretty crazy how different the weather can be in North shore, Boston and South shore even though they're all close by. One area will have rain, the other will have snow.
