Wailea, that's where the rich live.
Second would be Lahaina.

Those areas do have concentrations of higher wealth but you'll also find clusters of wealth scattered all over the island. This is also generally true for all of the islands.

If you can provide us with a little more background on what or why you want to know, you'll get some more precise responses. If you're interested in something like a gated community with million $ homes, there are some of those and they typically seem to be proximate to the higher-end resorts. If you're interested in mega-estates with values north of $10M they're out there as well. Those, however, are scattered all over the place.

Since the ownership history of the land and patterns of commercial activity differ quite a bit from the mainland, you're not going to see the same types of communities with very homogeneous population demographics.

Wailea, Kapalua, Napili - those are areas where there are homes owned by rich people, but not all of them live on Maui. Often these are vacation homes or townhouses.

The rich who live here are also the families who own large swaths of land, and have for generations. Some of those live upcountry.

Oprah has several homes, one on Hana, one upcountry, and a couple of townhouses in Wailea. But while she's rich, she doesn't live here. Same with Steven Tyler, who recently bought a home here, and he spends a lot of time on Maui, but I don't think I'd consider him a resident.

Are you looking for actual rich residents, or do you just want to know where there are expensive structures?

My wife and I have a friend who had recently moved to Hawaii, and we just returned from a visit. She lives in Haiku, and since we did a lot of driving around that area, we never got the impression that Maui was where the rich people lived, it seemed the opposite to us, that Ouha was the rich island, and Maui was more working class-ish.

You aren't likely to get rich in Maui working - but plenty of rich retire or have second/vacation homes in Maui. Somebody must be buying all those places listed for over $5,000,000.

It blew my mind that anyone would live more than 5 miles up the Hana Hwy once the hills started, but not only did I see quite a few driveways and mailboxes, her friend told us that those were some of the most expensive houses on the island

So maybe a person with little wealth who is happily living on Maui is much richer than a fat cat billionaire who has to worry about his money and always looking over his shoulder.
This thread isn't about being rich because you're surrounded by beauty. Beauty doesn't pay the bills dude.
