Hey all!
I am moving to Maui with my two dogs in Dec 2013. Do I have to buy an approved crate for each of them or they will be provided by the ariline company?

Thank you!!

You need to buy an approved crate for each of them - the airline will not provide them.

Most pet stores have them - like a Petco or even Walmart - get the specifications of the crate from whatever airline you are flying, print that out - and bring that to the store. You can't buy a crate at the airport.

Buy the crate on-line. Pet Edge or Jeffers Pet Supply usually offer the best prices.

Buy a Vari Kennel. The airline charges by the size of the crate, and the dog must be able to sit up and raise it's head. Vari Kennel is the only crate that is made tall to comply with the airlines requirement. Other brands, you will have a gigantic kennel before you can get one tall enough.

Expect to spend some money to get a proper safe crate. They can be re-sold for very close to what you paid for them, if you don't want to keep them.

2 young puppies from the same litter can travel together. Every other dog must have his own kennel. If the dogs and crates are small enough, you can fasten the crates together and ship them as one unit, which will be cheaper.

Get the crate well in advance and start feeding in it so that the dog associates it with good things. I also suggest that you take the dog for a few car rides in the crate so that he can get used to it and learns that you will be there when you get there.

Make sure you have all the doggie papers done and copies sent and received to the Agriculture Dept. Are you doing the "Quick Release" at the airport? Much more important than the crate worries.

Sounds like you need to do a bit more research. These are pretty basic questions answered on all Major Airline websites. Check with your Airline as to what is required. They won't mess with you at check-in if
you don't have all your required docs in order. They will simply turn your pet away.
