Hi, I am moving to Memphis in a month and am wondering what would be a good bank to open an account with.

My current bank does not have any branches near Memphis so I am looking for a new bank.

Just for general needs? A lot of people use First Tennessee Bank. Suntrust has a lot of branches in Kroger stores, which can be convenient.

Regions bank also has a strong presence in the Memphis metro area- no satellites in grocery stores but they have after 5 hours and saturday morning hours. I have been very pleased with the service from Regions

First Tennessee has a strong presence and has convenient locations. The bank is called First Horizon outside of Tennessee.

Default Matcu

The reason i like MATCU is because they are open after 4.30pm which genrally is not true with the other banks (i do trade with BoA).

So dosent matter whether its Monady or Friday you can get in.

But its a Credit Union, which by the way are doing better compared to banks.

Hope this helps.

Yes, MATCU is Memphis Area Teachers Credit Union - although the full name is no longer an accurate description of their field of membership. Credit union's charters define their field of membership - who is eligible to join. Some are strictly for one employer, some for a church, some for people who live and/or work in a specified community or area. The link below will help you find one you are eligible to join...

Been with Regions (well, Union Planters (a local bank) before Regions bought them out) for years and am very happy. Lots of branches and generally good service. The same would apply with First Tennessee and Sun Trust (used to be NBC, another local bank). First Tennessee is the last of the locally founded, large regional banks still in business. That alone nearly made me change when Regions bought UP, but I've been so satisfied I wasn't willing to make the change. But if they ever torque me off, I'm heading to 1st TN.
