To add to that, you can look up the tax prices for any home in the city. You just search by address on the city and the county tax accessor websites. You can find what the taxes were for last year (and you can pay your own online too). When you go to look for homes though, the listing should list exactly what the city and county taxes are for the home. If they don't, ask the realtor. It's their job to provide that info.

There are numerous good neighborhoods in the city, like in the historical district of midtown, out near the U of M, some in east Memphis, Mud Island downtown, etc. Just depends on how much you can pay for a home.

Default Collierville Commute

I am about to start work down at the airport as well. Collierville to Airport is 30 min via I-385. If you are working the odd shift such as myself it'll be 20 min. It's an easy drive and much closer than either Cordova or Bartlett.

Hi all,

thanks for the great feedback to all. TheBigApple the taxes information is great!

I changed my mind and now I'm considering Desoto county. Olive Branch and Southaven looks perfect at least from here. What I like the most is the short distance to the airport (13 miles) and the low crime rate. Let's see if I keep the same opinion when I go house hunting in a few weeks.

Any other tip or information s welcome! thanks again.

I have never traveled that way in my life...it's strange how people travel to the NE burbs for things, but never MS. I think the areas are relatively similar but of course, it is still....Mississippii.

I wouldn't move to northern DeSoto County if I were you. There is a lot of crime spillover from Whitehaven and many people are now fleeing Southaven and Horn Lake for Hernando and Tate County. Northern DeSoto County will be another Cordova in a few years. You should go with Collierville if you know whats good for you.

It is NOT 45 min. from Collierville to the airport area! Just get on 385 to the Winchester exit, and take it in to the airport. 25 minutes...maybe. Fayette county is a bad idea. Very long commute and horrible public schools. Southaven MS isn't a bad idea. I don't know much about it, but it's close to the airport, and worth checking into.

Chatham Village (5881 Park Ave) is a gated condo complex in the city, but would not work for you if you don't want your children to attend Memphis city schools. Only several of the condos rent out because they were purchased before the community banned renting the units. This rule provides stable neighbors that do not move in and out often. My twenty something daughter has been renting there since August and has had no trouble and feels safe. She even left one of our cars there for six weeks while she was home and no one bothered it.
I agree that Bartlett may not be the best pick. I only stayed in Memphis for a month or so with my daughter who is just moving home from Chatham Village due to a family illness, but we feel that Bartlett is pushing it on the safety issues.
I think her condo and several of the others are currently for sale.
