The thing is the violence is by the control of the routes to transport drugs to the USA.
So yes, is a USA problem. If is not a USA problem, then why the USA government send to Mexico and Colombia millions of dollars to eradicate drugs?
The homicides related to drugs in USA are minimal because even is illegal to consume drugs in USA is permitted by the authorities, for them is very easy blame Mexico and Colombia for the drugs and do nothing to stop the drug commerce in the USA.

What is legal or illegal in Mexico makes no differences in a county were the law is not enforced and face corrupt officials.

Wrong, the violence is for the routes to export drugs to USA.
Of course the member of the cartels are addicts, if not how explain the violence of their actions. But the violence is not because they don't have drugs, they have plenty of them.
