Soulpatch...sorry on delay...just caught up with your post. I'm on the slope above the Puerto Nuevo Lobster Village...next to Primo Tapia. A quiet place to live...nice weather...warmer then Ensenada and slightly cooler then San Diego...just comfy.
BajaSunset...not sure about what Internet connection your reffering too. I am connected via the land phone line (Telnor) for $18 a month...very cheap for my needs.

Steve, thank you for responding. I will follow up with Telnor for more details about internet service. ¡Gracias!
telnor has very good service, they have good packages with phone and internet included. I have a condo in Tijuana and pay around 350 pesos for phone and internet, and have not had a problem in 5 years. The only thing is that the employees do not speak English, so, if you do not speak Spanish, need a friend who does.
I just read the post from Steve, 18 dlls. es very cheap, take it!!!

Hello,
WE would like to hear the things that you like about living in Ensenada, and why there over rosarito beach. We are coming in Feb. and would like to have any and all information we can before we arrive. we are living in Lake Chapala for the last 10 years, but think we would like to live nearer to the States again. Looking for a single family home, no condos. thanks. Laucretia
I have been going to Rosarito for 35 years, and have spent a year going down and researching retirement down there. Direct email me and I will be glad to fill you in.
Hello IrishTiltedKilt,
I am a single mom who is self-employed online looking to move to the Ensenada area with my two school aged children. I am looking to rent a bungalow where I can have my dogs, near where the kids might attend an english/spanish speaking school, near the water so we can surf, and near public transport and/or walking distance for our daily needs like food. Do you have any resources you might recommend? I have spent a bit of time in Baja but it was surfing and without children so very unfamiliar with this part of maneuvering the area.

He last posted in December of 2009, and only posted one time, so you might want to look elsewhere.
From what I understand the problems down here are with those in the Drug trade and NOT American tourists or those choosing to retire down here. I get along real well with my Mexican neighbors...feel sure others are in the same position.
I've spent a lot of time in TJ-Ensenada and have always felt that the danger to casual American tourists/retirees is vastly overrated. You are much worse being an upper middle class Mexican. The organized kidnapping extortion rings seem to steer clear of American tourists as they bring down a massive reaction that they don't want.
The accidental American victim does happen, but as everyone knows there are innocent victims caught in crossfire in every major city in the USA.
Not trying to knock your home, but I have always felt that Rosarito gets overrated compared to Playas de Tijuana.

For an American Rosarito is usually seen as more desirable because it has that small village on the beach vibe. The beach itself is nice and it has tourist facing amenities in bars and restaurants. Playas has a beach few Americans would spend time on and is very Mexican in feel. The stores and restaurants are aimed at Mexican crowd. If one wants to go out they head elsewhere in town. It's a part of Tijuana. I have good friends who come from generations who have lived in Playas and know lots of their neighbors. It is just a much different vibe there, which some outsiders may like. Add to it how most Tijuana residents wouldn't want to pay a toll road and would rather be closer to town. In sum the two are really hard to compare because they attract different people. Few would consider options in both, they will want one or the other.
Maybe because its hotter than crap out there 5 months a year.
Hotter than hell would have been a little more apropos. Unless you were basically saying, "..hotter than a steaming cowpie..."
