Hmmm...How many miles of Metrorail could we build with one mile of high speed rail? Not to mention how many light rail/BRT lines along major roads that could be implemented to get the busses out of traffic.

If I was the county mayor I would make fun of Miami Beach for their stupidity and desire not to lose parking revenues instead of helping build their economy.

I went to Sleeples Night on South Beach a weekend ago or so. That was the most insane I have ever seen traffic in Miami. It was back up almost to downtown (on the causeway). I kept thinking, how stupid these people are for not building mass transit to the beach. But once you get to the beach they also need to build mass transit to all the major spots. Like South Pointe Park, Lincoln Road, The convention Center, etc etc. But I guess we can blame voters too. They put these people in office and don't demand more from them.

Just having rail to the convention center/lincoln road would be sufficient. Buses can handle the commuters as they do now. Miami Beach is a dump with corrupt government and police and will return to the 1970's downturn as soon as the financial system collapses anyway. The beach itself is nasty compared to most of Florida with sewage mixed with the sea during the rainy season. Everything around that strip of sand is ovepriced, overhyped and you find very few locals frequenting the area.

Im in miami beach! - YouTube

Some dump man, wow!!!, I don't think I can stand to look at this place.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have to agree with Doggiebus that the Taxi Unions had something to do with metrorail to not be built. People who have cars will keep on using them regardless of metrorail hooking up with the beach.

It doesn't sound like an excuse or ignorant. It sounds like an intelligent reason.

Right on! Because undesirables don't have cars and don't take the bus (all of which currently go to miami beach).

I don't think Metrorail to the beach would be a big hit to the Taxi drivers at this point. People who want to avoid a $50 taxi fare already have the option of a $25 airport shuttle or the $2.35 airport flyer bus. There will still always be people who need to take a cab or shuttle due to time constraints, baggage, destination not convenient to a train station, ect, as well as many who would balk at taking any public transportation at all. When you get out of the terminal in cities with airport transit connections, like NYC, San Fran, Chicago, you'll still see plenty of people catching cabs and arriving in cabs.
