She's dramatic and keeps you interested. And she's so sexy you can't take your eyes off her. But every time you go to bed with her you have to wonder if she will kill you in your sleep.

Or in the case of Miami - put themselves in extensive debt and live above their means to appear as if they can pay for it. Therein lies one of the problems - - -

I guess I'll have to put that on my watch list. Although honestly skinny blondes don't do much for me.

Miami is a resort, a vacation destination, a playground. I came down here from the midwest 30+ years ago. As soon as I retire, or maybe sooner, I am moving to a more normal, less hectic, less unfriendly, less glamourous place. I prefer a small town, down to earth, honest people and low crime rate. The only reason that I moved here was for a job and I love where I work.....but living here.....it just doesn't fit me.

This place works for some people and it doesn't for others. There are nice things about Miami...mainly nature wise but I'm sorry, no, the rudeness that you've read about is NOT blown out of proportion.

Maybe some of you are used to being treated this way but I can assure you, you do not find the attitude and rudeness everywhere. Not on the scale it is here. This is a "me first!!!" town through and through.

That is my absolute biggest complaint about this place...there is no need for people to be as rude as they are here. They live in fricken paradise. Relax, be nice.

As far as Spanish speaking, I don't give a whit what someone speaks as I walk along. What I do mind is when someone gives me attitude for not speaking Spanish, when I'm told I must be bi-lingual, (which means I have to speak Spanish), but those who speak Spanish and no English do not have to be bi-lingual and when people lie about speaking English. Some people here can't speak it but most can and a lot of them lie about it.

Your salary will definitely make life easier for you. You'll be able to find a place on the beach, (despite what someone said earlier), with that salary and you'll be able to be up off of street level so you don't have to hear the incessant horn blaring that goes on all day and all night long. You'll have peace and quiet.

You will be able to afford to dine out often and life will be easier on you.

Just be prepared to handle rudeness because it is there whether they say it is or not.

I agree with you, GatorMama. The rudeness, selfishness, me-first attitude. The rich are getting richer and the middle class and below are losing. This is a town of lawyers, doctors, bankers, liars, scam-artists, and scumbags. I won't miss it a bit.

I'm mid 20s, white, single, will make around $90k there, but not sure that's enough to give me a comfortable, happy lifestyle here. (live on The beach, dine out often, etc)( btw I'm not really into the nightclub/party hard scene)
So let me hear both sides- for those of you that love it here, why is it? And for those that hate it, where would you rather live?
Given your background and goals, you may like Fort lauderdale better than Miami.

Cost of living is less there, people are more friendly, they speak more English. It's safer, less rude, less traffic, less homeless, better roads, better grocery stores, lower insurance rates, cleaner, less toll booths and more white people and less rude honking. It has more of cosmopolitan European culturally diverse feel than Miami to me as Miami is predominantly Hispanic and black.

FTL is a more pleasant place to live overall, and only 15 miles from Miami should you want to come here. Most people I have spoken with in Ft Lauderdale try to stay out of Miami for a reason, but to each his own.

I would suggest you consider areas north of Hollywood and south of Pompano and as close to the beach as possible. You should be able to find a 1 bedroom apt in there under $1300 per month and walk or ride your bike to the beach.

Come here to visit the very place you're considering renting before you rent. Drive the area at night, go to the grocery store at night and drive the area very late at night to see who is on the streets and in your closest convenient store.

Florida is not like other places in the US where neighborhoods are homogeneous, meaning that the very rich live next to the very poor here. What neighborhood you live in and who lives close to you may determine part of your happiness in Florida as a whole.

The suburbs are a complete bore here, so get close to the beach and your 90k will be plenty to have good time and a comfortable life in Solfo.
