Is this how most people see Opa-Locka as? I used to live in Opa-Locka and although it had many poor areas it was also rich in community pride and there were many people not into the "gang-banger" life style. Opa-Locka can be dangerous but hell so can parts of the Bronx, Los Angeles, Chicago, or any other intresting/major city. Do most people see Opa-locka as a crime-infested city or do some people outside of it's residents still have love for Opa-Locka? Idk, it's been years since I live there but people still called it Choppa-locka or Glock-A-Locka to refrence it's ghettoness. But why does everyone look down on the city? Have you really had that bad expierences here? Just curious because i am a former resident.

I was surprised, too. Actually the reports of high crime in Fla in general shocked me. I was in Opa Locka several years ago and I we passed through a scruffy area, but most of what I saw was clean, beautiful and tropical. To my jaded eyes, at least. What a shame. Has the crime gone down? What caused all the crime?

I think I would know that considering I lived there before, and that's not at all what I'm asking. I'm asking from an un-bias point of view (meaning no one who lives there) do you just see Opa-locka as a dangerous "ghetto" place or are there people who don't live there who understand that Opa-locka still has many good people and people who don't condone gang-banging or murder? Opa-locka has it's flaws but it was once my home

I see the Triangle as a rough place. It is sad to see areas like Opa-Locka to decline,it was a middle-class neighborhood some decades ago and I love its Aladdin motif architecture. Hey but you can always take a magic carpet ride out of there.

It's actually better looking than much of Hialeah, as it still has trees!

And because of this thread, I can't get that stinking jingle out of my head!

Opa-Locka Hialeah is the place to be...Opa-Loooockaaaa....Hialeeeeah

(those in the semi-old school would recognize this as being the jingle for the Opa-Locka Hialeah Flea Market)
