I've heard different things about these topics. How bad are parasites, and what is summer weather like?

Just don't swim in fresh water lakes in the summer other then that no parasites. The summer weather is hot and humid with daily thunderstorms in the afternoon so plan activities in the am.

Parasites are only a concern when if you plan on swimming in freshwater lakes like Cubanchic said.
Besides, no one swims in fresh water lakes anywhere in Fl at any time really. At least not that I know of.

Also, summer weather is hot and humid with daily thunderstorms and rain. There's no variation, it's just hot. It's humid. It's muggy and damp. Plan things for the am or early evening like 6pm onward

Many fresh water lakes and canals contain alligators. Do not swim in them!

One of my friends says that she has heard that there are a lot of parasites in FL, but she's never been to FL, and we live in PA. I've been to Florida, but as you know, weather here in PA is much different then weather in FL, and we don't have many parasites, similar to FL.

Are the lakes polluted? Here in CA we cant swim in the lakes because we drink the water.

I would worry more about the alligators in fresh water lakes.

I wouldn't call Miami canals and lakes polluted. But the closeness to farms outside the city and with all the animals swimming in it (fish, turtles, ducks, even alligators) would prevent me to drink it without previous treatment.
