I'd say utilize bike cops. It is a smart thing Miami Beach was not turned in to a gambling mecca. This is a beautiful place and the city needs to keep it that way. People get stupid when they get drunk, it is how far they go with that stupid.

As I resident for 5 years till mid this year I've slowly seen ocean and Washington go to the wolves. I think the only way to fix the issue is remove curb side and drinking on the beach and turn it into a restaurant only set up. No curb side bar/clubs and actually enforce the no drinking on the beach. Vegas has 10 X the tourists and 1/10th the problem. We either clean up sobe internally or continue to push tourists away and residents out of town with this "ghetto" culture on ocean dr. Ppl came to our city for the glitz and glamour now all they see if drunken disorder. Opinions??
Maybe it will turn to its old ways with Octagenerian league of the bygone era, but that will be sometime with a continuous influx of young people.

We need to keep this beautiful Beach pristine and clear of thugs, who probably don't live on South Beach. I would definitely get rid of that memorial weekend bash.

I don't mind having most of the madness confined to Ocean Drive and a few clubs on Washington. I just avoid the area during party hours. No need for me to be there, and there's still plenty of South Beach to go around. The City recently banned outside drinking after 2 AM, and it's a step in the right direction.

One improvement they could do is close the main portion of Ocean Drive to traffic on weekend nights. Alcohol and vehicles and music don't work well together. Block parties don't work too well when people are driving through trying to show off their (in most cases, rented...) custom wheels. And the side streets between Collins and Ocean are not sufficient to handle the traffic volume plus the pedestrian traffic at those times either--it literally becomes a free-for-all whenever cars are still blocking the intersection when the light changes, and there are never police on site to manage the traffic flow. Pedestrian signals that force cars to make left turns while pedestrians are crossing are a bad idea too, especially when there are actually more pedestrians than cars.

The difference between Vegas and Miami is hotel security. The Strip essentially has "police" at every single hotel, thus keeping things better in check.

In Miami the best solution would probably just be a dedicated police presence just for Ocean Drive and other problem areas.
