Maybe I am wrong but the culprit are the business owners. They targeting precisely ghettos with their ads from all since the "nice" and "cool" ppl including tourists vs ghetto are in a 1:10 ratio. Means they don't just care as long as they buy a drink or two.
I experienced recently on Fifty Lounge Club in Viceroy Hotel on Brickell in where there were all type of people mixed when you expected nice ppl to even out the same level of the place. It turned out most ppl were captured online just saying "tell X person in the door and the entrance will be free".

There has to be another strategy to "harbor" ghettos in Miami.

South Beach went from a relaxed and affordable nice old primarily Jewish retirement area to a hip cool place (1983-1995), to now, it's a slum Guido hip hop punk show off scum-infested rat hole. The best years were from 1983 to 1998. Today, it's an over-rated scam marketed to uninformed wealthy third world foreigners, mostly Hispanics and a few Europeans.

This news story is about 15 years late. Sobe has attracted thug types for over a decade, these problems are not anything new. It is just surprising that not people are just starting to realize it.

Very accurate observation! Nobody I know who lives in Miami even desires to bother with the hassle of Miami Beach.

I don't see things changing anytime soon. The club, bar, restaurant, and hotel owners (mafia) control the politicians which in turn control the police. If the police comes on too strong people will start to go elsewhere which means a decrease in revenue for the business owners.

SoBe cannot be "fixed". It's too far destroyed as is the better part of Miami. Perhaps a Cat 5 Hurricane will level the area and we can start over with non corrupt zoning laws and 10x better planning/organizing.

One word describes the Miami of today: Sad.

America is a sad place period ^^^^^^^^^ What happened to this beautiful country. Well as they say a few rotten apples spoil the whole barrel. A few punks spoil a section of the city. One smart thing is, Miami Beach did not bring gambling to this beautiful island.

Well, unfortunately I agree with you Perry. However sooner or later Gambling will be on Miami Beach. It's just a matter of time but I don't think gambling will hurt the area that badly but it will increase traffic by 50%.

Here's how to fix South Beach:

Burn it to the ground.
