Hi,
Family of 4 coming into MIA from NY. I'll save around $200 if I fly into FLL instead of MIA.
Is it worth it ?

I have no idea about transportation costs between the 2, looking for inputs.
We will be cruising from MIA and visiting key west etc . We will rent a car regardless of where we land, but we will have to return it in MIA before the cruise and will need transportation to FLL from MIA after the cruise.

FLL is a very nice airport. I prefer to fly to and form NY via FLL instead of MIA.

I would just do MIA. You'll be closer to the Port after returning the car (you might consider returning Downtown- there are several agencies there and it will get you even closer to the Port) and after the cruise it will also be closer as well. If it were $200 per person, FLL, but $200 total? Not worth it, IMO.

I live in NYC as well. I usually fly into FLL and fly out of Miami. You can get an uber from FLL to south beach for about $35. Would you have to fly into and out of FLL? I find it best to book two one way tickets as it gives much more flexibility.

4 with luggage? You will need an Uber XL. But even then, $60 - $70 from FLL to Miami. You should save $100+ if you fly into FLL in this case, and it's only about 15 - 20 minutes further from the port, so rather trivial.

It's not worth it. You are paying a lot of money for your trip, and your time is valuable. Pay the $200!

(My answer would be different if we were talking $200 per person)

When you get of the plane at FLL, go have dinner, check into your hotel, watch a movie and then come back and may be just may be your luggage will be unloading.
