My same thoughts. Let's keep it quite. We don't want all the undesirable people of Miami moving up here.

I agree Luis, we need to keep the news to ourselves! I do like reading the Miami forum though...My spin on rudeness in Miami? I work retail, and in Miami had to deal with csts opening packages, throwing items on the floor, etc. Here, no such thing. Almost every cst brings their own shopping cart all the way back to the store front, rather than leaving it in the parking lot to ding someones car. But shhh We dont want the rude people moving here

Sorry you don't like it here. I have lived all over (FIU was my 22nd school) and I would take Miami over any of the cities I have lived in. I consider my self to have grown up here (moved here in 1989, and have been here since, except for a 5 year stint in Milwaukee & Chicago).

I think you need to look at the things that are really annoying you because I think you will end up unhappy wherever you go.

When I moved to Chicago in 1999, I thought that I couldn't wait to get away. It took me those 5 years to realize how good we have it down here. Great weather, great nigh life, fun beaches. Yes the driving sucks (I drive from Plantation to Key Biscayne during high traffic hours, 5 days a week on I95...I595 to the Rickenbacker), but for all of the rest of the perks, I can deal...

What's great about Miami?
*Not having to sit in a freezing car in the morning waiting for the windshield to defrost.
*Not having time for the windshield to defrost and trying to drive looking through a 5 inch diameter hole
* Not having to worry about parking in a puddle, having it freeze, and having to (in a suit & 6:30 in the morning) ice-pick your tire out.
* Being able to go to the beach year round.
* If you don't like the water; being able to go to the bars/restaurants on the beach year round.
*The Winter Music Conference on South Beach.
*NO STATE INCOME TAX (hopefully we keep this great tax advantage if Obama wins...but I doubt it).
*The old school adult skating night at Super Wheels on Monday (yes, I still go every Monday to skate to Boogieman George).
* All of the parks that you can skate in year round (I love Birch State Park!).
* Downtown Fort Liquordale on a Friday night.
* All of the Holidays down here (I love how it gets crowded on the beaches when all of the tourists come to visit).
*Spring Break on Fort Lauderdale beach.
*Dolphins games are still fun to tailgate at, even when our team sucks.
* You can still go ice skating.
* You can still learn to speed skate (in fact we have produced a few inline World Champions & Speedskating Olympic double bronze medalists Jennifer Rodriguez...who was also the 1st Hispanic-American to win a medal in the Winter Olympic Games).
* You can find places like Scotty's in Coconut Grove to go for a Pina Colada, listen to a Jimmy Buffet cover band, and sit out by the water.
* Miami is a 24/7/365 city...unlike many places (including LA) we do not have to close at 2AM (you can stay out until noon on Sunday on the patio at Space if you feel the need).
*You can buy a cortadito (trust me; they do not have on the West Coast, or in the Mid-West).
*We have a great underground Electro / Miami Bass scene & all of the top producers in this Genre come from Miami.
* 5-time World DMC Champion DJ Craze...ok, he was born in Nicaragua, but he came to Miami in the 80's as a kid.
*
I think I can deal with Miami....have fun wherever you go to find a place better than here...

I also agree with the above posts...we do need to send some of the people out of here and spread the wealth...

My ancestry includes Spanish from the 1800's as well. I escaped Miami in 1990 but my parents have been living there for 50 years. None of the natives who leave ever seem to want to come back.

I find this post interesting because it points out all of the things that YOU like about living in Miami, but did not really address anything that the OP said that he/she does and does not like.

Not everyone thoroughly enjoys beaches, Winter Music Conference and skating to the extent that those things make the area great for you (frankly, I've NEVER before heard anyone mention skating as a perk of living in Miami, and I used to be a skating freak growing up there but never knew it was a big draw). The OP likes mountains, lakes, four seasons, and an economy that supports the local cost of living - those things aren't found in south FL and have nothing to do with anyone's personality or whether they can find happiness elsewhere. Those are tangible traits that don't exist in south FL, and if someone enjoys those things as much as you enjoy the year-round beaches, skating and electro/bass music, then they aren't going to enjoy Miami as much as they would a place that has the things that they want. Just like you didn't enjoy the places that didn't have the things that you want.

It just seems ridiculous that someone would suggest that another person isn't capable of being happy anywhere else in the world if they can't be happy in Miami. People are capable of being happy anywhere, but sometimes they find more happiness in some places over others.

You aint kidding! Same thing in Orlando now too. you would think you were in Miami when in Orlando now. Talk about a total change! Man Orlando has changed so much over the last 5-10 yrs! The funny thing is, so many ppl deny the fact that people in Miami (overall) are rude. I have lived in FL and NC, and Orlando is by far the worst. (although i never lived in miami).

this is all opinions though. some ppl dont want to deal with the heat and like the seasonal change. some people dont like raggeton music and daddy yankee. some folks dont like listening to espanol all day. and let's not even talk about crime and road rage, sheesh.

How are people in Miami rude?! I'm going on my 4th month and I've delt with nothing but great people here. I'm always greeted with smiles, when I'm at restaurants everyone is always very friendly with me and my service is always great. No, I don't only eat at South Beach either, I've been to restaurants in all parts of the city, many times i'll have more than one different waitress come up to me, talk with me and ask how I like the food. When I'm at the store, people go out of their way to help me find products, and the list goes on.

Please people, if you are considering Miami - Don't let this rude people spoof scare you! Come here, visit and see for yourself, it really is great here.
