Saw a sign in downtown Traverse City today that said, " Coming soon, MicDaegos Irish Italian Grocery/ Deli". How can someone save enough money to open a business and pick a name that will put him OUT of business within a few months. My Italian-American neighbor saw the sign and swore he will do whatever it takes to put this guy out of business. Unreal how stupid some wanna-be entrepreneurs are

While I definitely agree with you....I do have to say that there are stupid people everywhere...not all locals as you say. Some of the transplants can be just as stupid, same with fudgies, who knows, that person opening that store could be new to the area just sayin'
too bad that it is already off to a rough start for that dude! oh well hopefully he will live and learn. (who knows, maybe the deli portion will be amazing!)

It's not a dumb name, it's the equivalent of opening a kosher deli and naming it "Kikes".

100% correct on both of these posts. I cannot fathom anyone thinking that would be a good name for a restaurant.

I guess I know it's been a long time since I've been to Traverse. I haven't been there since last fall but am thinking to take my mom there tomorrow for Mother's Day. Had no idea what is going on downtown these days.

Maybe they didn't know daego was derogatory? I'm Irish and I've never heard the term (had to google it). Sort of like how Beaners Coffee had to change to Biggby because it was offensive to some?

Perhaps that is true but my neighbor is going in there Monday, ask for the owner & ask him or her how they came up with the name.
