First, if you read the Yahoo comments you refer to you would see that they didn't all say the same thing. Second, while many were negative, comments on the internet are useless as a polling measure because they suffer from self selection bias.

Read more carefully. I didn't accept or endorse anyone's use of anecdotes as evidence; I simply called you out on your varying views on the topic.

Snobbery has nothing to do with Cleveland offering only a small fraction of what other cities offer in just about every respect: less places to go, less safe neighborhoods, not very bike-friendly, I guess the mass transit was quite good from what I remember, but again there's a lack of places to go in the first place.

You must be a really boring person if you can't find stuff to do in Cleveland. What exactly are you doing in Minneapolis that's so much more interesting and exciting? Parks? We have that in abundance. Outdoor recreation? Again, in abundance. Sports teams that are actually entertaining to watch? Check (not so for Minneapolis). Plays and cultural attractions? Abundant, and some of the most prestigious in the country. Bars and restaurants? Check, tons of em, and with more well-known award winning chefs than Minneapolis as well. Festivals? Tons. Clubs and nightlife? Yep, including a 24 hour downtown casino. Music venues? Yep, and more notable ones than Minneapolis, including the House of Blues. Downtown upscale Bowling Alley? Yep. Comedy Clubs? One of the best in the country. Jazz/blues clubs? Some of the best known in the country. Art galleries? Many, including several neighborhoods that are artist enclaves. Indie Movie Theaters showing new movies, as well as saturday night cult classics like Rocky Horror, yep. If you can't find stuff to do in Cleveland, you're really not trying very hard. Also, Cleveland has been adding a ton of bike lanes, you can take bikes on public trains and busses, and we have a bike share program in several neighborhoods, so that comment is off-base as well.

Yes. You have midnight rocky horror picture show screenings and bowling alleys! Nobody else has those. Look out New York. Cleveland is coming for you!

Bottom line is this: Cleveland metro GDP is 116 billion, Minneapolis metro is 238 billion.

Cleveland is not a major metro area, so this is a ridiculous argument. Move over to the Omaha thread.

Of the top 40 metro areas, only detroit and Cleveland lost population between 2010 and 2013. Rocky horror picture show screenings must not be that big of draw.

By the way, Detroit also has a downtown casino. That's not usually the sign of a healthy downtown.

You say Cleveland's not a major metro area, yet Cleveland still has better culture and more national attention than Minneapolis, the average person knows more about Cleveland than they do about Minneapolis, we are more relevant than you guys by far. That must really burn you guys. By the way, I never said that all those things are necessarily better than Minneapolis, I was just responding to the other poster saying there's nothing to do in Cleveland. There's plenty. And of course you zero in on just 2 from that long list of things I just gave.

Really? Then why are New York and Boston both considering building casinos? They must not have healthy downtowns right? The casino in Cleveland adds to the burgeoning nightlife scene that already exists there. You can hop to the clubs, venues, bars, and restaurants until they close at 2, then check out the casino, or some of the nearby 24 hour dining spots that are popping up around there. Then catch the train home. It makes for a pretty great night out actually.
