Looking at demographics alone one would expect Minneapolis to be fairly safe yet somehow it’s a lot worse than many of the much poorer Southern cities with much lower percentage of whites, what gives? On average the population is a lot more affluent and better-educated than Charlotte or Richmond for example yet crime is a lot worse.

One part is the no chase clause implemented. Crime is an industry, they know once they carjack someone all they have to do is flee and Mpls won’t chase, so what’s the deterrent?

May not be releated by Minneapolis has a pretty long history of anarchist groups, radicals, skinheads etc. The fringe "militant culture wars" elements have been in play for at least 30 years

I am talking about overall violent crime rate which is a lot worse than most comparable cities, not just carjackings. Boston is very similar for example - similar demographics, similar extreme left criminal-coddling politics, even worse income inequality yet crime is nowhere near as bad.

A good start on your answer might be a couple hundred less policemen on the force now. Throw in that their hands have been tied to some degree by the city council. Also throw in the fact that they know that no matter what happens, the city council will gladly throw them under the bus.

These things would disrupt any city's safety.

Its,been bad a lot longer than that though.

It earned the moniker "Murderapolis" 25 years ago.

The reasons are many but I will have to think more specifically than the obvious factors and respond later when on a comp...

I'm guessing a major difference between Boston and Minneapolis would be the racial demographics?

Not really, they're actually more or less similar - as a matter of fact Boston has a higher percentage of poor blacks and much higher income disparity, assuming poverty and income disparity are major drivers of crime Minneapolis should be safer than Boston but that's certainly not the case. Same deal with Charlotte - a lot blacker and poorer with high income disparity but also a lot safer.

How do the city leaders in Boston think or deal with the police force? Someone somewhere mentioned this has been a long term plan to get Mpls to it’s current state. As in 10+ year plan. I don’t know the validity of that though, but it seems to kinda line up.

That is interesting.

I'm guessing Minneapolis has WAY better welfare than those cities? Maybe that is a driving force for higher crime rate?
