Recently interviewed for a job in Biloxi and will know shortly after the new year if I'm a finalist for the position.

I'm a single male in my late 20s and checking out apartments in the area. I'd prefer to stay under $900/month rent-wise. Is that practical for getting a respectable apartment in a decent area? Overall cost of living seems low. Biloxi appears to be a nice beach/casino town in general, but I've seen lots of mixed reviews on previous threads mentioning some seedy areas.

If background info helps, I work in broadcasting/media. Born and raised in the Northwest, but have lived in 4 different states in the past 5 years (currently in the Philadelphia area). The farthest south I've ever been, though, is northern Kentucky.

Thanks in advance for any insight and suggestions!

Biloxi is a great town with a lot going on. It is a military town, so I think reasonably priced apartments would be in good supply.

Compared to Philly, "seedy" areas in Biloxi are pretty tame.

The beaches along the MS coast are not Florida/Alabama type beaches. Barrier islands keep the water along the shore stagnant with little wave action; therefore, people don't congregate on the beach in near the numbers as they do in AL/FL (those beaches are only a couple hours away).

NOLA is less than two hours away also.

I go along with Viverlibre.
You have lots and lots of choices. Take what you can find, try a relatively short term lease and spend time looking at all the areas around Biloxi. There are TONS of opportunities, just depending on what feels right to you.
North of I-10 I would expect things to get a lot cheaper, if that's your deciding factor.

BOL!

For nicest areas for apartment complexes in Biloxi, I would say definitely north Biloxi (the part north of the bay and south of I-10, roughly at Cedar Lake Rd exit) is a clean, safe area. Also the part of Biloxi near the line with the city of Gulfport (e.g. Popps Ferry Rd at Pass Rd, and also near the beach about where Biloxi and Gulfport meet) is generally a good area. Biloxi doesn't really have a bad area but comparatively these are the better parts. Also downtown Biloxi is evolving into a cool, little area but I'm not certain about apartments in that area yet.

Similarly for the city of Gulfport, the end closer to Biloxi as well as the part north of Pass Rd (near Lorraine Rd and Courthouse Rd) are the better parts. And downtown Gulfport these days is getting to be a neat little area, with the new aquarium opening soon right across from the beach.

The town of Long Beach is very safe and clean, with some nice apartment complexes right across from the beach. Ocean Springs is very nice, with a wonderful downtown, town beachfront, and walkable bridge across the bay to Biloxi. And if you can find something in downtown Bay St. Louis and don't mind a bit of a drive, depending on where you work, that would be amazing.

The company has moved onto other candidates, so a move to Biloxi is no longer in the cards.

Thanks again to all. I'll keep this all in mind for possible future reference.
