I've felt sick ever since I saw the photos, make ya think about what's really important and how fragile life is. I'm glad everyone on c/d is ok. This is such a terrible tragedy makes me so sad to see people in pain.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of Joplin and their families. Such a devestating ordeal! It is heartbreaking to see the photos and hear of those lost. Praying that Mother Nature will send sunshine!

I grew up in Miami, OK, so Joplin is almost like home. I was in tears this morning reading articles in the Seattle Times and USA Today. We were hit by a tornado in Oklahoma City in 2003 but our personal loss was nothing like this. I wish I could wrap you all up in my arms and make it better.

Well, I am home now. I stepped on a nasty nail and it went through my shoe and into the arch of my foot. I had to go to doctor and get a tetnus shot and now I am supposed to lay/sit around with my foot up.

After talking to my cousins, I am wondering if some counselors for PTDS should be dispatched. Gosh they're having nightmares and panic attacks. They're all very grateful to be alive but it's like the "shock" has worn off and the panicking has begun. The dead bodies is what's getting to them moreso than the destruction. In Tuscaloosa people were hanging dead in trees, and in Joplin there were dead people in cars and on the ground -- plus the injured in Joplin were really bloody. Sounds like Joplin had more dead children than Tuscaloosa, or at least, more children in plain sight. I can imagine how war veterans must feel.

One of my Joplin cousins got some videos of his journey from the bathtub to outdoors (when he opened the bathroom, he was actually "outdoors" as the whole apartment building was sucked away from around them). I decline to watch these as I couldn't bear to see lifeless people lying around.

If my next home is still in Tornado Alley, I'm buying a Davis Caves home. And barn.

Thanks, DP. So far, so good outside of the immediate impact zone.

Nice of you to respond!

Default Now confirmed an EF5

Just heard on the Columbia's 98.9FM that the Joplin tornado has been officially categorized an EF5 (winds exceeding 200mph) and is listed as the 8th most deadly tornado in this country's history.

Death count now reported at 122 as more bodies were located today under concrete at the collapsed Home Depot.

Fatal Tornadoes since Jan 1, 2000 -

Annual Fatal Tornado Summaries

How 2011 ranks so far in # of tornadoes recorded

So many stories from Joplin involve people just getting home - or driving home - from the high school graduation ceremonies. Very sad.
