Downtown is the heart and soul of Mobile it is not West Mobile !

It`s time for Mobile to have a new leader.Sure there have been worse leaders than Jones in other cities and Jones isn`t a bad guy but he has a bad attitude and mentality. And that attitude is the " IT WILL DO MENTALITY".

In my opinion the city of Mobile has experinced more economic prosperity and GDP growth during Sam Jones reign than Dow`s.The problem is that there isn`t nothing to show for it ! Dow had a plan and it was called the " String of Pearls" with that plan we gained a new convention center,Cruise TERMINAL and ship, Government Plaza, renovations of the Battle House Tower,River View Plaza renovations with crown,Hampton Inn, One way streets downtown being converted into two ways,Royal street has come a long way,we got the tallest building in the state (again) it is also the tallest building on the Gulf Coast outside of Houston Texas,Parks were being cleaned,The GMO Building was redone! and several other projects that I can`t think of.

A Few Projects that came with Dow`s "String of Pearls "

Mobile Convention Center

Goverment Plaza

Battle House Hotel renovation

Renovated River View with Crown and glass car port

Renovate GM&O Building ( Donald Trump wanted to turn this building into a casino but the Alabama law say`s gambling is illegal)

New Gulf Coast Exploreum being relocated to downtown and the Museum that it was connected to was an old Market in Mobile( 150 + year old building). It was renovated into the Museum of Mobile and Gulf Coast Exploreum"

And the Bug is real ,lol

Alabama Cruise terminal

Also I forgot to mention that the Port of Mobile became one of the largest in the nation under Dow`s leadership. It`s now in the top ten.

Battle House Tower ( tallest building in the state and Gulf Coast out side of Houston Texas)

So what has Sam done with the" New Plan for Old Mobile" ? No seeds no fruit ! It`s time for new leadership.Sam came with a vision but no action.

You're right Portcity. He seems to be too easy going, but a nice man. Mobile needs a go getter. Montgomery's new mayor is awesome and he is putting forward full effort to move the city. I think the people of Mobile will send Sam on his way but we also need a shake up in our laws towards gambling. We are too conservative, and people like to have fun. They say our beaches are family friendly or our port city is family friendly, man screw that Kids don't spend money(take em to Disneyland).we are so backwards because Indians can make money of basically slot machines(pay no taxes to the state) and a natural born Alabamian citizen can't make a dime(at least without being harassed). And our legislatures don't see a problem with that.

From a quick glance, the carpeting scheme and seating arrangement of the Battle House's lobby looks like a giant roulette wheel.

As for Downtown, I want to see Dauphin Street continue to thrive and develop into a destination for culture and media arts. I noticed several web design and architecture firms between Bienville Square and Cafe 615.

@mimpdaddy yeah it`s time to send Sammy back to the council ! Mobile is blessed to have the DNA to become a tourist city !

@ Bon Rigis I noticed that downtown is embracing the arts more.I want to see more art downtown and more musicians playing on dauphin street. The empty store front building need to be painted or something so investors can have a visual for the potential. Downtown Mobile has so much potential !

We need a new young innovative leader ASAP !

It is beautiful, I love downtown Mobile but they gotta do something about the empty, derelict buildings. They are unique and it is such a shame to see them go to waste.

I agree totally with you PortCity Mobile has so much potential but we are lacking a strong leader. I was driving down St louis street the other day and it looks like no man land after you past the courthouse...that street would be a perfect place for a bed and breakfast, cafes, art galleries and locally owned retail! I just left savannah and was completly amazed at their city market and their investment into their downtown area, most of their progression comes from SCAD tho! I believe that those who own buildings downtown should lower there price and be charged for dilaptated or unattractive storefronts....I` love downtown Mobile but we need a leader with a vision or it will perish!
