I have had great dealings with Wachovia. However it has nothing to do with the actual bank and more to do with the loan officer that handles all my referrals.
All banks have just about all the same programs, and pretty similar underwriting and pricing efficiencies. The only real variable is the person actually handling the transaction with you, Not all loan officers or brokers for that matter are created equal, some know of programs and ways to get approved and for better rates than others, and some are more persistent when problems may arise than others.
What bank have you had good experiences with that you would recommend them for a mortgage?
Very good experience with PNC Bank, for both mortgages and HELOC's.. I've closed within 4-5 days on some.. Received committment letters within 24 hours by emails, and the prices are reasonable.
I like to use Washington Mutual and Taylor Bean and Whitaker. Both companies are good at underwriting, use common sense and have a good turn around time. Great rates too!

Washington Mutual ? Are you serious ? Have you seen the news in the past year or so ? They have been rated the NUMBER ONE worst mortgage company to deal with in the entire U.S. Horrible customer service and a mess. Stay away !

I've had a really good experience with National City Mortgage - National City Mortgage. They even helped me with the assumption of a technically non-assumable loan and did it as a standard flawless procedure without any begging on my part. Beforehand I was told by the local office that it's not possible. Go figure... Of course, the other person had to qualify on his own (divorce situation).
taylor bean is very good....but the best lenders are usually offered through hybrid lenders or brokers. Most of the good lenders dont do retail...only wholesale
What about Bank of America - They have a completely no fee mortgage and the rates are the same as Wells Fargo (with fees)
