Aloha i think i will try watching The GrandMaster. Some really good post guys mahalo. I believe what ppl forget is most all the martial arts movies are made up with the same kind of moves, stunts, wirework etc. But what is different is the cg and film technology. Yes i like tony jaa great martial artist.

One of my favorite martial art actors is Sammo Hung.

Heres one of my favorite movies from him.

enter the dragon (1973), bruce lee
game of death (1978), bruce lee
way of the dragon (1972) aka return of the dragon, bruce lee

i like how he starts out with no weapon and acquires a staff, two sticks, then the nunchaks. fights using only his peripheral vision at times - too cool to turn his neck.

5:17 who brings a knife to a nunchak fight?
9:03 bruce vs. chuck

Mainland China made quite a few kung-fu movies in the 1980s. They were not famous internationally but were quite good.
One of them is Shao Lin Temple (Jet Li).

Hey hawaiian by heart, since you're a 70s HK movie aficionado ...

I'm looking for a HK sword fighting flick I saw as a kid in the early-mid 70s. It was about a group of guys (don't recall if there were women in the group) trying to sneak into a castle/fortress ... that's about the extent of my memory. I remembered alot of bloodshed (duh!) and great sword play (one against many) and the only scene that stuck out in my mind was there were two "heroes" left standing back to back surrounded by a bunch of bad guys; one is badly wounded and the other didn't want to be taken alive so he stabbed himself with the sword so that it went through and stab his wounded buddy as well.

Any chance you know what movie this is?

Give me sometime to think about it, it sounds familiar, are you sure it was just all swords or did each person of the group have different wepons? Do u know how many was in group? I will get back to u soon. but it does sound familiar.

I believe each person had a different weapon but nothing crazy like a flying guillotine ... just longswords, broadswords, spears, ax, etc. Don't remember how many in the group ... ten or less ... maybe?

It might be The Heroic Ones but I'm not sure.

Edit: I think I found it ... it's All Men Are Brothers with David Chiang and Ti Lung (and a very young Bolo Yeung).

Well while you're trying to figure that one out, what was the one you just thought of with the group that had different weapons? That might be the one I asked about in an earlier post about the guy with the long braid. Maybe not, but I'm still trying to remember what that movie not sure if it had a hari cari scene in it or not.
